Yes. They have said so on many occasions and if you look at a number of the ground combat screenies you'll see characters in a number of different uniform styles.

Well I know I won't be getting the Mirror Universe outfits because I couldn't spend $200 on a lifetime subscription to Champions. I feel kinda gypped.

They've indicated that such bonus items might be available later down the line through other means. Granted, that's not a promise, but they ain't saying a flat no this stuff will ALWAYS be exclusive.

City of Heroes had some cosmetic powers as a bonus in the DVD/Collector's edition. City of Villains had special costume pieces for preorder. Some of that stuff is now available through their Veteran rewards programme. Not all the bonuses, but some.

Yes, I know, City of Heroes is no longer managed by Cryptic. But the vet rewards were introduced while CoH was still a Cryptic title.

Most of the in-game bonus items from later CoH boxes can also be purchased, individually, from the online store.

In any case, all the stuff offered as perks are really cosmetic items; they make little difference to actual gameplay. That's the point. All MMOs offer things like this as bonuses, and for good reason.

Granted, cosmetic items take a special significance in a Cryptic game, where customization is king. It's also significant for a Star Trek game, where many potential players are serious about the universe and intend to roleplay. It kinda sucks if you really wanted to say your character was from the Mirror Universe, but you missed the chance to get the Mirror uniforms.

But Cryptic can't possibly cater to everyone.

Being gypped would require you to have spent something.

For example, those who paid $200 just for the uniform may feel gypped if it isn't everything they'd hoped.

You however spent nothing, and are therefore getting exactly what you paid for.

Cryptic has said that they are customizable to a point ... but I've also heard a lot around these forums (take it for what it's worth ....) that there are some 'purchasable' items ... that is, you buy them with real-world money to use in game ... and supposively this will also apply to uniforms ....

I really think the black-on-black Starfleet uniform is pretty tight ... and if it's possible to use it in-game without having to do much extra ... I'll be pimping it out from the start ....

I would expect, given the sheer level of customisation Cryptic throws into there games, that you will be able to make just about any kind of uniform you want, including something that looks like the mirror universe, not the exact one in the pre-order but perhaps something close.

You'll be happy to know that ST:TOS season 3 on blu-ray has an exclusive admiral costume included.

I think they're referring to anything that actually gives a game advantage. It is possible that cosmetic items may become available to the rest of us later on.

Speaking as someone who did spend $200 on Champs Online and will be getting those uniforms... it would stun me if another means of getting those uniforms didn't present itself to you. There's nothing that was promised we the spenders of cash that these were exclusive, and I for one have no problem with anyone getting access to them.

It may be a microtransaction, or it may be something unlockable in the game, or it may be a preorder perk from one of the retailers, or it may be an 'event perk' received in a content update, but there will almost certainly be a day when you can dress your officers for Mirror Universe success.
