Craig Z said that he wanted Developers and other staffers to watch at least ONE series of Star Trek, have we seen or heard from any that weren't the biggest fans and what their picks were along with their impressions?

might be interesting.

Personally my favorite show is "In the Pale Moonlight" from DS9 it's such a well thought out plot line and the ending is chilling for what it says about humanity.

I'd be interested to see which series the Dev's watched and what their opinions were. I wonder how many of them have been converted?

I agree, I mean...I know not ALL of the staffers at Cryptic are Trek fans. It'd be cool to see which series some of them gravitated toward to watch and what they thought

But you have to have some basis of lore for a game like Star Trek. If you are going to make a game for this franchise, you cant make generalizations on weapons, ships, uniforms, or the Standard Operating Trek Universe....So I would hope they have some background and clear understanding of the mythos of Star Trek.

So far - what we have seen has shown just that.

this is how they are getting all their story lines for the fetch and grab npc missions.

I've watched the whole series of Voyager.

I dunno if they would willingly disclose that info unless they're a long-time trek fan who has seen all series and movies, or at least most.

If it was just some guy who had only seen say, voyager or DS9, i'm sure the community would uproar about how any given series they didn't enjoy personally wasn't the "whole picture" or "good enough" to give them an idea of what star trek was all about and so on.

I mean the last thing they want to do is give players additional ways to measure them up like pieces of meat.

Wow...you're screwed, lol.

*Imagines what the game would be like if the Devs did that*

Waitaminit...infinite photon torpedos, regenerating ships, pointless combat... ...OMG!!

The bitter is strong with this one.

(Oh, by the way, why do you care? I thought STO having unlimited torpedoes turned it into an 'arcade shooter'? (I still would *love* to see your logic behind that little nugget of reasoning) Like or not, Voyager is canon, bro :D)

That would be cool to hear their opinions on the different shows, but I doubt they will because of the fanboy screaming that would occur when they give the "wrong" answer.

I remember seeing a few Twitter posts from Devs saying they had to go back and review certain episodes so I'm guessing they have a library of Trek in the office for reference.

You've got me there, my friend.
And to be perfectly honest, I liked Voyager, it was not my fav series though. truth be told you could lock me in a room for the rest of my life watching only voyager episodes and I'd be perfectly happy. Could I be happier? Prolly, but startrek is startrek and it's all good, per my sig. I know my sarcasm has an edge, sorry if I came off as bitter. Voyager was great science fiction, and I'll put it against any other show out there, except perhaps, other startrek shows.

:)

I hear you...maybe I should have said "which series did you gravitate toward" without rendering judgement...and what did you like/dislike about it?

That is probably one my favorite episodes as well. DS9 is also my favorite of the ST series.

I can only hope that the stories in STO are anywhere near that well written.

It would be interesting to hear from the various STO devs which are their favorite episodes and which ones they drew the most inspiration from in terms of developing the game.

Well so far in the last few months I've watched all 7 seasons of TNG and I'm in the middle of season 6 of DS9 right now with Voyager next. So far from what I remeber of watching Voyager on tv when it was airing I have to say that DS9 is my fav show to date.

I own and have watched all of TNG, DS9, Voy & Ent (as well as the DVD Boxset of movies) and am pondering getting the remastered version of TOS.
