I just wanted to say that I think STO will have one of the best grouping mechanics in new MMOs... because it is built in! I like to solo sometimes, but I will not play a game that does not provide for group content. It is massively muliplayer for a reason. Here is what I mean:
Every mission (at least ground) requires you and your away team. So, if you solo you control NPCs. But if you do not, you slowly replace the NPCs with players, which will be more fun. The main point though, is that every mission requires a group. Therefore every mission could be grouped with other players. It is built into the system as a basic game design.
I am hoping there are few to almost no missions that would require just your captain to beam down. It would not be Star Trek if you did this and killed 100 bad guys with only a captain. I know there has been solo captain Star Trek episodes, but you get the point.
Anyway, grouping looks promising. I like to solo at times as much as the next guy, but like I said, I am playing a game that is massively multiplayer for a reason other than to pay $15 a month and see other players doing their own thing around me while I am doing my own thing. That is a single player game IMO.
Group mechanics as the foundation for content is brilliant in its own right, and very Star Trek.
