Just had a thought, probably way way to late to hope for something like this to be in by launch, but still probably something to toss out there.


It occurred to me when I read the thing from Awen calling us Ensigns over here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=774066). Being Enlisted myself, it got me thinking...in the real military, Officers may be in charge, but they couldn't function without the Enlisted corps. It's rather universally recognized that the Enlisted corps, especially the Non-commissioned Officers are the primary reason we accomplish anything at all. Even on a Navy ship, the department officers will admit that they live and die by their NCOs.

So I thought STO could use something similar. Like having some CPOs (Chief Petty Officers) to make the ship's crew of red shirts perform better.


Could really have two different ways to do this. Have two categories of Enlisted: Junior Enlisted and NCOs. Junior Enlisted boost the performance of red shirts, NCOs boost the performance of the Officers (reduced cool downs, etc).

Not one opinion on having Enlisted on the ship? They're the back bone of any operation?. Y'all want ships with no back bone? :p

The ship has crew, there used as a "commodity" in the game. They just don't have any real gameplay effect as the BO's do.

I see where the OP is coming from tho ...

In a later expansion, it would be kind of cool to be able to have some NCO's that have "Combat Experience" which could effect the efficiency of the repair crews, boarding parties, etc. ::shrug::

They could even be one of those commodities you lose when your ship is under attack ... which would be another trade off for standing there and just taking a beating till the last moment. Or a decision factor in "abandon ship" orders.

I dunno ... I'm all for more detail, but for this, at a passive level.

I agree; they could make a very simple system of crew that would work very well. I honestly don't want anything The Sims like where I have to micro manage, personally.

I think they said that racial modifiers apply to your redshirts too. So some redshirts are better at somethings than others.

Nah, I wouldn't even want to see them named. Maybe by department on each ship, but only as a reporting tool ... e.g. The Engeering Cheif has 3 of 5 stars of combat veterancy (something more trekkie than that, but you get my point).

It would have to be a minor thing that just added flavor to mix ... I wouldn't want to see it have so much impact that it would make BO's useless.
