I just created Memory Delta, the startrek online wiki, there is already a star trek online wiki, but it is almost completely empty and it seems easier just to start a new one. I obviously kept in keeping with the other Star trek wiki's naming convention. I'm looking for admins and such to help me build the site, I am also currently working on a logo.

I think there's already like three STO wikis out there. I think there was a thread a while back trying to get everyone to agree on one, just to make things simpler.

Oh <_< the current site has no pages though, except for the main page.

I dont follow this logic. How is it easier to start a new one than to just create an article on the existing one?

There is room for more than one STO wiki.

See...the STO Geekipedia mainly collects articles people have written about their characters - bios and suchlike. There's writeups of player-created ships, and little bits on player fleets.

Another wiki could collect, say, only official information about the STO game. At this point in time, it could collect all the info we know about STO - essentially an expanded version of the sticked thread in these forums, with references/links to where that info was published.

When STO actually hits, that kind of game info wiki would have stuff on in-game items, quest details, etc.

but... This one doesn't seem to have anything about star trek online?

edit: forum lag :P

I think this wiki can be expanded as more official information is released and as the game is released we can add "canon" and "instruction book" like stuff. This one is put together well, and I think can be used better.

given that the game isnt out yet and there isnt much else to write about.. think i'll stick with the Geekipedia one.

Well, while I applaud the enthusiasm ... there's a problem.

Memory Delta (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Memory_Delta)

Memory Delta (http://memory-delta.wikia.com/wiki/Memory_Delta_the_startrek_online_Wiki#Replace_this _with_the_name_of_your_topic)

Two different Memory Delta's.

And when you google "Memory Delta", you don't get the STO version.

Aside from our internal wiki which will deal mostly with internal fleet information, Lone Star Fleet will continue to support STOGeekipedia. JadeEnigma is a friend of the fleet, and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship. I don't think I am speaking out of turn when I say that for the LSF, unless the community en masse starts to use another wiki, we consider STO Geekipedia the de facto wiki for the STO community.

I'll be honest ... I looked at Geekipedia a while back, and while kudos are due you all for a fine site, I personally will migrate to a Wiki that is dedicated to the STO game ... not fan fiction, not second fleet asides, not user designed ships.

The wiki I eventually use will cut through all the RP stuff and get to STO specific information.

There's nothing wrong with the site for you all, and for many others I'm sure. Its just not what I'm looking for.

I agree with you, and I'm a roleplayer.

The thing is, I really think that pure STO gameplay information needs to be separate from player-written roleplay stuff. I stand by my statement that these should be two different wikis.

When I want info about STO gameplay and mechanics, I should be able to look that up on a wiki that won't...direct me to player character profiles.

But when I wanna know more about other folks and their character backgrounds, well, then maybe the Geekipedia's good for that.

It ain't the same thing, though.

Right now we don't have a lot of pure gameplay info, yes. But in the long term there needs to be a separation of that from the RP stuff.

What would be the ideal scenario, is if Cryptic could convince Memory Beta to start an STO specific Wiki on their site, so we could link STO articles to Memory Beta articles. Memory Alpha would be the second choice, for those same reasons.

I thought Memory Alpha and Beta were ran by the same people, just seperate sites for "Cannon" and "Soft-Cannon" or what ever the term is. Books and games and such.

Why can't a wiki do both? Right now there ARE no game mechanics available, no real game info at all. The idea is, once game info becomes available it will be added and updated there.

Because it's not right. Just the same way Memory Alpha and Beta serve to Cannon and Soft-Cannon trek information.

If i go to a wiki looking for information on STO I don't want to find things about Players' characters Grandfather and how he fought in the battle of Wolf 359 etc etc.

I agree that having a Wiki for RP related stuff is great, but a combined Wiki for all STO things, Game and RP?

I don't like it.

And thus continues the cycle of divisiveness and decentralizing information useful to all...
