maybe instead of having all systems run by players if theres a way to put this in later on, perhaps just have the stations that do things constantly be player run?such as navigation, first officer, tactical, things like that?and the npcs handle the smaller more boring areas like transporters.when the players manning those stations are not online, can have an npc take control or another player/captain.

While I do think this would be interesting to see I am not sure in gaming terms how practical it would be. You have to account for too many variables. Also what happens if you are in a battle and your tatical officer loses power at his home? You would die just because you have no one firing back. This is just one example of course and a drastic one. But in general it would be better to have each player on their own ship just so that you could form up a fleet. If you have say 5 people in one ship you will still have the lag factor for that number of players in one area only in fewer ships. I think it would limit the chance of large scale engagements. Also if you did this and someone for real life issues were not able to play you would have to find someone that you may not know to play on the ship. You have no idea of the skills of said player. They may have the in game skills but may not be able to use them properly. You are then gimping your own ship because of this rather than this less skilled player just risking their own ship and death penalty they risk everyone on that same ship.
Though it would be interesting if they had maybe one or two multiplayer ships in there just so that this could be done at some point for a close knit and reliable group.

that would be an intersting idea, I can see the pros to this idea and the cons, but over all it mite be something fun, But i think they should do this to stations that are bought and made by players.

as i said, have an npc or another player standing by incase someone cant make it or as you said gets booted.if they get booted, just have one of the npc's rush over and take their station like on the gta games when someone steals a car. if its an npc that takes over the station, then the captain of the ship has it added back to their hub.
but add the pob ships later in like an addon or a major patch so it doesnt push back the release.
that would be an intersting idea, I can see the pros to this idea and the cons, but over all it mite be something fun, But i think they should do this to stations that are bought and made by players.
stations would be cool also:)
