Electronic Counter Measures, and Electronic Counter Counter Measures (ECCM) . Will this be part of the space combat. If so how will it affect hit and miss rates ect... New to this so if this has been brought up already sorry.

I don't think this will be in the game. However I am only going on how we never had any ECM or EECM in the shows or movies.

Probobly just always computer controled.

They have mentioned ECM for the game, but they were not too detailed on how that would function.

ECM is very interesting, but it's an abstract concept. It never really made sense in the Starfleet Commander games (to me, anyways).

The concept of ECM is to confuse the enemy's ability to acurately target you. The enemy's weapon are tageted and controled by the computer systems relying on readings coming from you. If you send out excessive or false readings, and/or try to conceal others, it will help make targeting you harder.

The same idea as using chaff or flares on fighter jets to deal with homing missle locks. I believe modern fighters, as well as other military vehicles, also use ECM in real life.

If there's anything like this in game it will be a skill that one of your bridge officers has. Who's to say? You may be out exploring and find a new tactical officer that has the ability to create "false sensor echos" which decreases the chance of a photon torpedo hitting your ship. ;)

Well put, to add to this Maybe a deployable sensor decoy that could simulate your ship or another ship to the enemy sensors. This is the future after all why not add some new tactics to the Fed and Klinks bag of tricks.

This is very, very likely for your science officers.

I'm hoping electronics warfare and information warfare will be a science vessel's domain, among other things.

Sensor decoys, spoofing, walking a target lock onto something else, and good old fashioned white-noise jamming would all be quite lovely.

Hey there old fleet mate, I to am hoping for some form of ECM/ECCM if this is an officer skill that's aquired thats fine to. I know that in SFC1,2,and OP ECM/ECCM was crucial, and added a lot more depth to the game, as well as the infamous sensor decoy shuttle (wild weasel), as well as the erratic maneuvers which added to ECM as . I know it sure felt good when you made the enemy waste his shots because he hadn't bothered to counter your ECM, then you made him pay dearly for that mistake with a volley of overloaded photons ventilating his hull.

Cant wait to test the ship combat in STO.

I think in the context of STO's ECM and ECCM's it will be things like Tachyon beams or bursts to completely or partially reveal cloaked ships, Tractor beams to snare enemy ships which are faster/more agile then your own.

Things like that which we've seen in Star Trek previously but have never really realized they have these more War like applications.

Just my two cents :P
