I think we'll be informed on the website when/If first round of invites will be sent. Nothing so far....for me at least

Signups have been on for only a week; that doesn't mean it's not going on atm ofc, but I doubt it. For all I know it's started and the people in it can't talk about it. I'm sure we'll get an e-mail, announcement of some kind when it does, though. I keep checking my e-mail everyday; one day will be a happy one I hope. :)

This is the first game I can think of that didn't have boxes for past beta experience, reasons for wanting to be in beta, what you could bring to beta, how many M&Ms are in the jar, heck I was even expecting the "If Kirk and Picard had a baby, what would it look like?" drawing section. Heck, it didn't even ask for in-dept comp starts and I have a kick butt comp! I feel jipped! :(

The developers are wise, they will release the answers once they are prepared to receive hundreds of bug reports! Think of it as Doctor Julian Bashir preparing his sickbay for casualties.

There are some indications that it may begin in October.

Exactly, why do you think so many of the Cryptic team is taking vacations now? They are preparing for all heck to break loose once more.

BTW, once you get a beta invite, you will not be able to say so. The NDA you sign for a beta requires your silence to the rest of the community/public. So even if people have gotten invites, they won't be able to come here and say "I got a beta invite, it's started" unless they wanna lose it.
Keep that in mind guys, if you get into beta, do not talk about it in the general forums.

That may not be entirely accurate, nobody has seen the NDA yet unless of course there are people in Alpha that signed it. Some NDAs will not preclude you from saying "yes I am in the beta", but that is usually it. Any speculation on what the NDA will look like is just that speculation.

I was kind of suprised there is no Age box. Those under 18 can't be held to an NDA. They also didn't ask about what games we've beta'd before and that sort of thing, which every beta I've ever signed up for asked.
Oh, and if you click the Beta Preview button on the home page you can see at the top of your app that is says, "Your beta application is still pending"... well, presuming it is still pending :p I'm guessing that will get updated if you get accepted. Helps me not check my spam filters in such a paranoid fashion :)

It will more then likely be the same NDA that Champions Online used. You can say you are in beta, but that is about it. Without actually reading it, all I can do is assume and you know what they say about that...

You are correct. If you get invited you will get an email. If your not invite you will never get any email. At least in the one I didn't get into I never received one. I signup to it very late in the process. I think Closed beta had already began.

LOL we should come up with a secret code. But we need something we will never see posted. Here I got something. How about if you get the mail, then post with the title "Signatures fixed!" Then with the message, "Thanks for allowing us to use HTML in the signatures again." :D

If someone bought the CO/STO Closed Beta Key or won a Beta Key in a contest aren't they technically already in violation of the NDA for it being publicly known they are in Closed Beta? Can they actually expulse people for NDA violations if they purchased Closed Beta Keys form the CO Offer? Is there even a NDA drafted as yet? If there were...could we even discuss it here?
If someone were accepted into Closed Beta, are they forbidden to post at all in the General Forums or must they just limit what they say? Will Cryptic just take a ban hammer to the posters that violate the NDA and expel them from the Closed Beta? I am very unfamiliar with the inner workings of NDA's as I have never signed one. If Cryptic prefers not to respond to my questions, does anyone else feel like speculating with me on the answers to these questions?

Ive never seen and NDA that says you cannot say your in beta. What they all say is that you cannot talk about the game and the actual beta.
I did the offer for champions but not sure when beta opens up nor am i sure when those who have done the champions deal will get access.
All i do know is its supposed to be near end of the year.

People who won keys from contests were announced by Cryptic,...either in the chat room or on the website. I don't think it's a big deal to let people know you're in beta..you just cant give any details or opinions on the game itself.

Well, thanks for that amazingly clear clarification =] Just kidding, of course. I did the Champions Online deal so I already have a spot in the beta, but if that program hadn't been announced I would be waiting with bated breath every day when opening my inbox too. Good luck to everyone who applied, though . . . I really hope a good number of people are admitted.

All good things come to the patient. I am not a big forum poster but I am a big time lurker and I like to read and soak up all the information I can.
I do hope to get in on the early beta phases but I am also one that never holds their breath either as I would likely suffocate :)
For those of you get in remember your there to test and not just to get an edge on when the game goes live. Please make the game a success. I have been a trekkie since I was 5 years old and I want this game to be successful.

I heard they're making a list of all the people who start threads asking about how to get into the beta, and that list is used to filter them out if they were by chance chosen from the Cryptic Beta random pickulator they've made. ; P

So you've seen and read the NDA somewhere? How exactly do you know this? I'd like to see a link, unless you're just pulling it out of your nether regions.
ALL NDAs I've signed for previous beta testing experiences have said that you cannot talk about your experience while closed beta is in effect, but says nothing about not being able to even tell people you're involved in it. I've NEVER seen restriction like that in all my beta tests.
Edit: Heh. In order to know that, you must have already seen the NDA, which means you're in the beta already. Nice going, talking about it and all! :P

Well since the STO Beta App is exactly the same as the CO Beta App I'm sure the Beta NDAs are the same too.
Like someone already said, Cryptic started taking apps 9 days ago, they'll probably accept 'til the end of the month then make decisions and let you know.

I really don't think they give two hoots if people know who is in the Beta.
They splashed my name all over facebook and most of us here know the contest winners.
Besides, I also think Beta Testers ranting to the community about how good it is, is good publicity like...

Naturally I don't intend to violate this mythical NDA I've never seen and I would hopefully get a hardcopy here in the United Kingdom of GB and NI to sign and return or it's not actually a legally binding anything

Beta invites usually come in stages and are mostly random. You might not get invited in the first round, but could be one of the future ones. Unless you've got an ultra crappy computer or are just particularly annoying I doubt they mark any as, "No beta for you!"
