Would'nt it be cool if you could send out a distress signal and other player could pick it up and rush to you aid?

I imagine you could over the text chat menus. But some of the missions you'll be doing will take you to an instanced zone, so i dont think you could get much help in those areas unless they plan on filling these "Zones" with multiple people working on the same mission. Im sure there will be alot of "distress calls" in the PvP neutral zone! :D

You just yell "HELP" into chat. That's your distress signal. However, the responses you get might not be what you would expect from Starfleet officers.... :)

When you're searching for a team you could phrase your questions to them as a distress signal.
What I would love to see is for players to be able to place themselves in "Responder Status." Then if I'm playing, either soloing or with a team, I (or the team leader) have the option to click a button labeled "Distress Call."
When this happens the game server would pick a few people that have placed themselves in "Responder Status" and give them a popup that would say something like: "You have received a distress call from the USS Bounty in sector 13, 45, 02. They are under attack by Klingons. Do you wish to respond? YES NO"
If they click YES, then the game server adds them to my team and they automatically WARP into my sector / instanced mission.
I have no idea how likely that is to happen, but that's my two credits.

I like that, sounds cool.

That idea sounds very well thought Peregrine_Falcon. It will help with the anonymity given by the multishard-server design. And it gives good imersion, makes you feel you can count on your Fedaration allies.

In the MMO, Pirates of the Burning Sea, when you went into an instance of attacking or being attacked by an NPC or another player...you had an option as part of your skills to send a distress flare.
When you are in that instance, it would be open for 10 seconds for others to join and then close...when you send a flare, it would open the instance up for 20 seconds or so to allies and send a flare in the sky for others to see your location.
If combat works similarly to PotBS in that it is instanced, then I would recommend a distress call feature that opens up the combat zone for a short period of time to allies and sends a distress call to those closest to the zone.
Asking for help in chat does not help if people don't know where you are or aren't reading the chat window at the time.
There had been countless times in PotBS where I went to the aid of ship because I saw their distress flare, not because I saw someone yelling for help in the chat window, which ultimately gets quickly pushed out of view by other players chatting.

I like this idea a lot as well!
It seems very fitting to the Star Trek universe. This would allow for others to assist you, but any worries of "kill stealing" would be out the window. You asked for help and you get it. And, if you need to flag yourself as a "Responder", those that don't like helping others don't have to worry about seeing the requests. :D

I'd be willing to bet just about anything short of my junk that "General" or "Zone 1" chat will be the Distress Signal chat.

That distress signal idea is fantasitc...maybe set it to within a couple of levels of your character either way so you arent a level 7 captain rushing to the aid against a level 30 foe, and also help sort out constant pop up stuff...also would be cool to give us 'something else' to do. I thank thats a really, really great idea the more I think about it. Hey Rekhan, look at this and take this suggestion to the powers that be.

think it was in the hailuing interview that if your in warp jsut cruising around and you come into sensor range you can see a faction buddy beeing jumped by 2 klingon ships and can choise to warp in and help.
so i do hope there will a distress call option so when you press it it will give the players in x range a pop up that a ship is under attack and you can choise to alter course and warp that way.
would be cool seeing warp isnt instand if the back up is far away the ship would have to hold out for 5-10 min before back up arrives ofc the other side is that 1 sector further away a fed party of 5 ships was diong a explore missiong and could be there in less then 30 sec

Yeah, Zinc definitely said you could see other players in trouble on Astrometric view - the overall 'world map' when you're travelling between systems. He gave the example of seeing a Borg Cube invasion on the 'sector map', so you know to head in the direction of that system...but yeah, he DID give that example of another Fed ship being jumped by Klingons.
That suggests they're already thinking along these lines. Which is cool.

Peregrine that is an excellent suggestion well done... hope the devs take this into consideration and can implement into the game. Sounds great for the immersion side of the game...

well if you are PvPing against BOK members I dought that you will have enough time to call for help.

I like Pere's idea as well. I also like the idea of just a signal that is sent zone-wide. Either works. I wouldn't yell out help in the channels, but I would activate a distress signal. (I can't stand the constant questions and asking of help by lazy people in OOC channels. I usually tend to block them)
Is it or is it not too late for these types of ideas though? I know the beta has not begun, but is it going into alpha then or are they further into the project already?

That is a great idea.
To add to this what about making the area or sector the distress signal started lightup so friendly players in the area or close by sector not in a "Responder Status." can also warp into that locations.

Earth and Beyond had somethign similar.
when your ship was incapacitied ypu had 2 options, 1 was for your ship to be 'towed' in which case the ship would be transported to your last registered space station, the other was to activate your beacon, this would then place an icon on on the map of every player in the system of space you were in. Only 2 classes in the game had the ability to jumpstart an incapacitated ship, it was fantastic, I'd actually goto low level areas in my ship capable of jumpstarting to help new players out, I really believe the little things like that are what gave EnB such a close community as it was such a great way to meet new people.
