Please release a star map so we can all enjoy this most important part of STO. I am sure we all know that the map may change but having one to discuss would be really nice.
Thanks in advance

I doubt the galaxy is finished. They are probably still creating new planets.

I'm interested in how far we will be able to explore. If I point my ship in one direction and hit max warp, at what point will the game stop me? How many/what quadrants will be playable areas?

Thanks in advance
I'm sorry, but they've responded to this request several time (and their answer was pretty much what Vordor said).
"Thanks in advance"? I don't know, that kind of rubs me the wrong way, little presumptuous are we?
Anyway, I'd like a map too, but just like a lot of things, we'll have to wait :)

I sure hope they are adding new planets and stuff to the map and maybe moving a few things. I hope they add stuff to the star map for the next decade.
Even so it would be nice to be able to start imagining corses of action.
I think as screen shots go the Star Map will be the most used and useful of all screen shots and probable be one of the best selling points of the game. People can start social networking about what they want to do with their friends in the game.

If they release a map, people will just comb it over trying to argue about how wrong it is and how this planet should be here and that planet should be there.
I wouldn't if I were them.

Lol, fair enough. That's a pretty good power, it can be spread over any medium that can spread information. Even small intonations. You aren't limited by silly earthly things like matter... Sweeeet...
I was actually hit by a pretty nasty "preemptive thank you" today, so maybe I was still sore from that ;)

Exactly they will show the map to their trek friends about where thi or that is. Their friends willbe like what a star trek mmo with all those stars to visit.

Why are you "sorry?" With all due respect, the only person around here that sounds presumptuous is you. I realize you think you are more important to this community than you really are, but you are not. In my personal opinion you do everything you do for Tamgros' own ego, not for the betterment of others. It is not your job to apologize for something you have zero control over...leave that to the real staff. But I suppose "I'm sorry" is no less a figure of speech than "thanks in advance" right?
You know it is okay if you step aside and let the staff respond for themselves right? I did not recall the thread title asking Tamgros for anything.

The best way to prepare yourself for this game would be to look at starcharts not made by the Star Trek Online game. We do need some things hidden away from us to keep the game suspension going! I do wonder how we will look at the universe!

I don't recall Tamgros asking for your opinion either.
That's kind of a silly argument isn't it? If someone knows the devs have already responded on an issue why SHOULDN'T they speak up? The devs and community staff don't have the time to respond to every thread on the forums, let alone answer the same question a hundred times.

Whether tamgros does what he does for his own ego or not is beside the point, at least he contributes something.

I think an early release of the StarMap is the best thing a space game can do. Sure they might have misplaced a few things but if they are wrong about one or two things so what they can fix it if they want to. On the other hand everyone would enjoy it and it will give us something to talk about other than the pretty graphics.

They may still be working on the star map, but maybe we could get a political map?

Here's Rekhan's statement:
Correct. The map's not in a finished state right now. Similar to showing a lot of interface stuff, things are so malleable at this stage that anything we showed probably wouldn't match up to release.

I was actually apologizing to him for my critique of "thanks in advance". It was pretty nit picky and perhaps a pointless critique. The way I said it didn't really come out right though. If you thought, that I thought, that I was able to apologize on behalf of Crytpic, your response makes some sense. That would have been pretty douchy of me.
As for the other stuff about my ego... *shrug*. How to defend that? I don't even know what my ego would be about or what do you mean by importance to a community. I'm just here to hang out and have a good time :o

Yeah, if we can't blame the devs for something, we've always got Tamgros!
(j/k Tamgros. Hey, here's a thought, we can shift the bullseye to Vmann. He did do the filming after all (and fine filiming at that imo) hehe. (Again, to everyone, that was a joke. A bad one, but still just a joke.))

I don't want to see a map ...
A) It won't be what it will be when the game is launched.
B) Without context, it might be disappointing and just cause a flurry of negative threads.

yeah it will be interesting to see if Cryptic is able to make exploring as rewarding in the game as fighting. Does anyone out there have a breakdown of TNG showing the percentage of episode swith space battles, the percentage with phaser battles and the percentage with no shots fired? I wonder if Cryptic will be able to make quality missions that have a similar ratio.

I'm not sure about just TNG, but I *think* Peregrine_Falcon (or someone else) has a list (or link to one) about the combat/non-combat ratio of Star Trek. If no one else has it handy, I'll try to look for it.

By my count;
22 / 13% Space battles
16 / 9.46% Ground battles
131 / 77.5% Non-battle
Though some of the episodes walk a fine line, such as "The Chase" in which two Cardassian ships fire on the Enterprise and a Klingon ship, but neither the Enterprise nor the Klingon ship shoot back so that the Cardassians will think the Enterprise and the Klingon are disabled.
There were a few other examples like that, generally I only counted as battles those incidents in which both sides were shooting.
Also, I counted Descent twice since it had both space and ground battles. Two-parters were counted as a single episode.
