I am just wondering if u will be able to play more than one character and if so can u have one in the federation and one in the kdf at the same time?

Pretty much a given that you will be able to at least play multiple characters of the same faction on a server. While I'd like to play a Klingon as well, I think it would be beneficial to all involved in PvP and competitive PvE if we were restricted to a single faction per server/account. I know they've said they want us all on one server/univers/shard, but this IP has the potential to bring in huge numbers of players - not WoW levels, but far more than any other game. More than one universe/server/shard (whatever you want to call it) may be necessary, in which case a faction restriction wouldn't be an issue in my opinion.

Well I hope I can play as a Klingon as well as a Fed for when I have a bad day.

I would really like to be able to have atleast 1 character in each faction. I think more would be awesome, but I really just want to be able to see both sides of the game.

exactly im more of a pvp type so klingons for me may be better but i wanna see the whole exploration side to and it seems to me that to do that u would have to be part of the federation to do that. i can see them saying no u cant do that cause u could spy for the other side and all but still i just wanna play both sides depending on what mood im in. i just dont wanna miss out on half the game just cause they put it all on one side and u can only do one or the other i think that would be a mistake on cryptics part.

Obviously nothing's confirmed yet...but I think at one point someone on the dev team hinted we'd get maybe six character slots at launch, so we can play all professions in both factions.

Something like that, anyway. We'll see.

This is a good point. Didn't you get 8 extra slots if you got the Champions lifetime sub offer? That'd be cool to have something similar for ST:O. (hopefully, w/o having to buy the lifetime for those who don't want to).

That is indeed what we have been told so far by the devs. My comment in my previous post was pure speculation and opinion on my part.

No no, bring in the lifetime for STO, give us extra slots and give us the outfits we would have gotten if we got champions lifetime. (see my post on this can of worms!) If it's one server then we'd likely beable to have multiple character slots. If they go with multiple servers then it might be like WAR where you can only do one side per server. Only time will tell though!

Has there been an official comment on this topic? I am curious how many character slots we will have. EVE with its continuous skill learning pretty much limits you to one character per account. WoW, CoH and others encourage altaholism with numerous character slots and options.

I would at least like to be able to play a Federation and a Klingon Captain so I can experience both sides of the game.

While they have not specifically stated it, you will be able to play mulitple characters on both sides.

Exactly. It would be pretty lame that if I wanted to experience the Feddie side of the game, I would have to delete my skill-capped Klingon. I really doubt that Cryptic would limit us to only one side forevermore.

Well Rekhan did make this comment about a Single Server set up:

We plan on launching with a single server. Don't be afraid to communicate in German, since we don't have an official language, and we plan on localizing the game into German and French.

Would be kind of stupid if we could only have 1 character or even a few but only on 1 faction, i think its a given that we'll be able to make atleast 1 on either side.

I agree.

It does seem obvious that they would not lose out on all that subscription money from players enjoying playing both sides of the game.

My gut tells me you'll get 4-6 slots (likely 6 ... one captain for each skill set) ... then any additional slots will be MTs.

I don't really see a need for more than 1 character per faction ... but we haven't played the game yet, so who knows.

The hints that you will get 6 characters ... 1 for each skill set on each faction ... hints further to me that your role as a Tank, Healer, DPS'er may be a little more focused than many of us are expecting. The additional slots would be for Hybrid Captains.

It is in fact the only reason I would walk away from STO and not play.

CO has 8 slots (I have 16 for buying the lifetime sub). The 8 is not enough to try each skill set, so I'm inclined to think it is an arbitrary number. You can MT more slots or unlock them through game play.

As for "why" people would need more. A large portion of the MMO population are alt addicts it would be rather silly to exclude these people who are established sub payers and often long time subscribers from the game.
