I know it was brought up months ago about the use of joysticks in the game. I was wondering if they have ever decided to use them or not. In the pax video's there have been nothing but keyboards shown as controls, no joysticks. Can a dev let us know if we need to dust off our joysticks and get them ready or go ahead and store them away. Personaly I realy want space to be joystick controled. So much easier to play when you can use one hand for movement and axis.

They have already said that they dont want it to be like a fighter game so i would bet they dont make it a preset up thing but i can also see how if i bind my photons and phasers and other things to keys on my joystick it would work so i would bet it will just be somthing you have to set up the keybindings your self

"Tall Ships" had steering wheels. The space shuttle has a joystick.

I don't see why giving players the choice between keyboard or joystick would be unreasonable.

It would be nice to have the option. I don't own a joystick atm, but would probably buy one to just check out the difference (if it will be supported at all that is).

Yes you can use a Joystick. It is just limited to what keys you can map to it. (askcryptic).

I see it more likely you can use a controller like in CO, than a traditional "joystick". As an aside the controller makes CO a lot more enjoyable I've found.

I hope I can use a joystick, course now I wonder where I put it.

Didn't Riker pilot the Enterprise in one of the movies using a joystick?

Yep, in Nemesis. Looked about the same as the 20-year old one I still have and use occasionally (still works just fine!).

I never even thought about joystick controls for STO, but that would be incredibly awesome if I could use one, get one of the thruster/joystick combo deals for space combat, bind a button to voice chat...yeah, baby! I guess it'll depend further on how many buttons I'll need. I know, say, for WoW, I needed about 48 buttons for all my skills on my paladin, 20-ish on my rogue, WAR took around 20-ish for my Witch Hunter, about 30 for my Knight...

Insurrection, actually.

I've used my Saitek X52 with a lot of MMOs. It's fun to do now and then, but I think I would really prefer to do this one with a keyboard.
