When is the demo released?

Well they could just copy/paste that Pax demo and make it available for download.
But I don't think they will. It seems like copy/paste is a lot of effort. (yes cynical ...flame away at me)

You do realize this is an MMO and not a single player game correct? The pax machines were running a shard, as well as the demo. There i no way any western based company would ever allow a player to run a shard on their own computer. A demo is impossible for an MMO. There will probably be a free trial later down the road, but that will be long after the game has launched.

I would imagine because it's more effort than it's worth. It's not as simple as a single player game's demo because of the whole server/client thing. I don't think it's trivial to setup the server and everything associated with it, even if it is more limited in nature. Not to mention the whining when people see something they don't like or see something change that they do like. I think it's way too early in the development process to release a public demo.

In order to make a demo, you have to give somebody access to the Game Engine. For MMOs, it's not a big deal if they get access to the client game engine, but if they give out the server game engine, you'll have free servers sprouting up all over the place.

I was at PAX and I played the demo, it was awesome, and I got to meet Craig Zinkievich himself.

I think the only MMO that I have ever played that actually had a demo (as opposed to a trial) was Ultima Online and that is ancient, first generation MMO type stuff. You actually played offline and did a few quests in the city of Occlo or whatever it was called and ultimately had to kill a troll.

But MMO demos are unheard of in recent times, they just give you trials to play it online for a period of time.

They'll probably have some sort of trial after release sometime. But dang, why wait that long, you know you want it ;)

For the official demo at PAX it was ether on the GamesCon shown as what Cryptic has in his hands, but not released as a playable demo for download or something like this until today.
