I was thinking in a skirmish it would be nice if i could slow a lower mass ship with a tractor beam or even grab an asteroid and pull it in my path for my enemy to hit.

I remember reading it will be available to use during combat.

They were available at PAX, you could lock on to an opponent ship to reduce their speed and turn radius. However, no stellar objects were able to be targeted, so no tractoring. They also stated that you could collide with things such as asteroids but there would be no damage taken. Primary purpose of asteroids would be to break weapons fire line of site to allow time for shield/hull repair.

Also, iirc, the Omega pattern gives you temporary 'invulnerability' to tractor beams. Would be a nice counter to someone who likes to use the beam a little too much. I am glad that tractor beams are in the game, though, and they have more function than in Eve (basically just a 'get that wreck or container for me').

In Star Fleet Command , Tractor beam was my secret weapon when fighting other players. Specially when I had a scatter shuttle (sp) with Heavy missile waiting in my dock bay. :p

I used it that way too. I miss that game. It added another dimension to the game.
