Apoligies if this is elsewhere (I did try looking, honest)

Are there plans for specific gameplay traits for the Federation and Klingons?

For instance, The Federation would never start a fight with a newly discovered alien race, but the Klingons probably would. So will a Federation player be punished for starting a fight and a Klingon rewarded? (or even killed by one of his crew for refusing to fight?).

It would be a nice touch if play-style was influenced by faction 'rules' :)

I would imagine that this would be apparent in Fed and Klingon quest lines.

Klingons are going to be more PvP Oriented. With them having more capable warships and the ability to PvP other Klingons in House Wars.

The Federation has the advantage of the variety of ships that are available for players to captain.

yes, Klingons get a +100 to ass kicking and federation gets a -100 to Combat skills (unless your Kirk)

They def need to have racial traits.. even if you customize a race you can pick from a set of traits using racial points, and if you pick one type thats the total opposite of another its grayed out (keeps balance).

i think this is delusional. making a race pvp orientated will end up making the same **** they have on WoW and PvP. Both factions should play exactly the same when its comes to their focus on pve/pvp. SFC3 proved that you can have great Klingon story for single player mode and i expect nothing less and since when do klingons have better ships??

people it has been a LONG time since the Klingons had better ships then starfleet, what they have is numbers and this is due to the empire age but the Federation is finaly catching up and with even numbers and superior quality Federation will always come up trumps.

Well Klingons will be more PvP orientated as with the in house combat system but nothing has been said to indicate Klingon ships will be in any way superior to Fed ships. But Cryptic is going for a different feel/design for each faction.

since the klingon race is geared towards PvP vice the Feds it stands to reason that cryptic did this for a cpl reasons:
one - it allows those that desire PvP as mainstay to join the klingon race and keep the play style they prefer.
two - it allows those that prefer to explore, take it easy and dont like PvP as much, to join the Feds and have a casual and enjoyable time with the game.
three - the neutral zone and "certain" other areas will be open PvP so you can get your aggressions out against the other faction without fear of reprimand from the high counci or the federation council.

i think they did a good job thinking this thru to partition the play styles without interference.

I did sort of suggest something similar ("cultural tactics") in my An Alternative to Aggro (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=22225) thread. You might enjoy some of the ideas we came up with there.

I agree with the first part. Just because they are Klingon's doesn't mean all they can due is snarl and thirst for battle at every turn. They can be quite cunning and interesting when the writers aren't being lazy and just make them the rabid barking dogs of Star Trek.

On the second part I'm not so sure. Yes, we always see Klingon/Romulan/etc.. ships fail to stack up when compared to the Feds, since the Feds were the "heroes" of the show at the time. That being the case I'm sure Picard would still be able to defeat a Vor'Cha Attack Cruiser while in an old Ambassador Class, not because the Ambassador was superior to the Vor'Cha, but because Picard was the hero and the writers couldn't let him fail. (btw totally random example that, as far as I know, never happened so please let that part slide).

So in essence, it wasn't so much, Federation ships > Klingon ship, it was more Federation = Hero, Hero > non-hero. Since I'm assuming the players will be considered the heroes of their respective factions, I hope the playing field will be more level now.
