Read an article on ST:O that got me thinking.

Hi! Was reading an article in a German gaming magazine about how the space combat is going to be more tactical as opposed to a "free-for-all", which I think is great.

So then my mind started wandering, trying to think if there were similar games I'd played in the past that had the same type of game concept, and I suddenly had a realization.

Anyone ever play Pirates of the Burning Seas?

From what I've read, there are many similarities:

Ship based tactical combat

Land based "missions"

A variety of ships with different functions

The ability to customize your crew depending on your goals.

Now I want to throw out there that I USED to play PotBS, and I enjoyed it immensely, the community just puttered out and it lost it's shiny "newness".

So now I have even greater hopes for ST:O. I just thought I'd point this out as I thought it was interesting to a point and if anyone saw similarities in other games they've played when it comes to ST:O.

I am currently downloading the PotBS trial client to mess around with the game some because all this reading about STO reminds me so much about that game. If the ship combat in STO is close or better then PotBS then that is a big win in my book.

However, the bigest proublem I had with PotBS was with PvP and PvE areas mixing so much. If I had to go to a city for a quest and it was contested I would have to open myself to Open PvP just to do quest. With STO it sounds like PvP will be restricted to the netural zone and you would only be going there if you WANT to PvP.

Also, PotBS did not have much to do in the way of exploration because it was historical baised whereas STO should have alot of exploration.

I do see how PotBS and STO are simular, but I do hope STO will be above and beyond PotBS.

If this game sucks as much as PotBS.. I'll just shoot myself. Well not really but please... that game tanked. It's time to start demanding a little more than crap for our money folks.

Well... it's just your oppinion, the fact that it is still online means it hasn't tanked that much after all and all those people playing it, will say something different...

You may not like it, but please... don't take your oppinion as a general fact and/or produce lies out of it...

Thank you good sir for pointing out that my opinion is just an opinion, in your opinion. Now I'll sleep well at night finally realizing that what I state is just opinion and that I should listen to your opinion about my opinion being an opinion.

Oh yea. PotBS tanked. There are many games out there running with a few people playing. That doesnt make them great games. If the people here want PotBS gameplay from STO and not more, well then I'm sorry I hoped you all expected so much more.
