It looks like this would be the equivalent of the Sovereign 'becoming' the NX-91001, in this case for the Excelsior. The neck has 'two' connections ~ the pylons are constitution style (instead of right-angles) and the saucer is definitely different. What remains is the Excelsior's engineering section and the warp engines, that is unless this is Cryptic's favorite variant at the moment, including Excelsior, Constitution and Excalibur parts put together.
I kinda hope we have the options to make an Excelsior as we've always known her to look with the bent pylons or even with Enterprise-B / Lakota variant parts?
What do you guys think?

I think you are right, it looks like a hodgepodge of parts from the Excelsior, Constitution and Excalibur. I am hoping that we can customize it to look like the original as well. I'm guessing since there are some screen shots of the original Miranda that we'll be able to do the same for the good ole Excelsior. Or at least I hope!

That does indeed bear quite a remarkable resemblance to the Exclesior, but I can't help but think that it may just be an Excalibur.

It's really hard to tell from a lot of these pics

We've seen a spot-on Miranda, Akira, Saber & Galaxy, I don't see why you couldn't have the Excelsior too.
I have a feeling that you'll take the basic Connie/Excel/Excalibur spaceframe and be able to put exactly the kind of primary/secondary/nacelle configuration on it that you'd like. I think I saw that in the Gamescon vid???
The PC Gamer article had six different versions of the Constellation class, one of which was the 'Prometheus-looking' ship in the vids. Another one was spot-on for the Cheyenne Class. So, maybe that's a good example of taking a standard frame and modifying it.

Mmmehhhhh . . . It has a similar engineering section, but much shorter. The Excelsior has a very long engineering section. Also, the Excelsior was classed as a Battleship, at least in a couple games that I played, so much larger too. So I"m not quite seeing it.
The devs said there will be more configurations in future expansions, so I imagine we'll be seeing larger ships than a Heavy Cruiser eventually, and one of these may well be an Excelsior. :D

Indeed ~ I also noticed in the videos that the saucer / engineering section was far too small compared to the Excalibur / Connie refit ~ Cryptic's said it's not a simulation, but gotta quote Bones at the end of ST:VI in reference to the Excelsior itself ~ "My god, that's a big ship" :D

Hehe, great quote. Great movie too, loved seeing the Enterprise and Excelsior working together.
It would be really awesome to Captain an Excelsior Class ship.

Especially since they had those sweet Transwarp drives!
I dunno, those photos look like variants of the Constitution Configuration.
The Excelsior had a longer Engineering section along with shorter nacelle pylons, and the Engineering and Saucer sections were connected by a much shorter and thicker neck.

During the old ST time period it would have been a battleship, but not by STO's time period; much the same as the D-7 was originally a cruiser, but was a destroyer by the time of TNG.

Yup exactly! Check her out next to a Galaxy. (http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/excelsior/excelsior-galaxy-drumhead.jpg) She was big, but not quite as big as her newer siblings.

I would imagine that as the Enterprise "updated" to TNG from STO and waa a new bigger class/hull, so would the Excelsior if it became "updated". :D

did you read the ship of the line?

doesn't look anything like an Excalibur or Excelsior class.
Excalibur: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/stexpanded/images/b/b9/Excalibur_Class_Starship.JPG
notice that the nacelles are flat with the rest of the hull.
Excelsior: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/en/images/0/05/USS_Excelsior.jpg
The Excelsior is bulkier than whats in the image.. and the nacelles are not straight.
EDIT: Never mind, I checked and Cryptic isn't following the same ship designs that have already created :\
Looks like they just took the USS Excalibur; Constitution class, from TOS and "modernized" it.

I'm pretty sure that there is an Excelsior in the Connie config. Though it'd be nice to hear from a dev.

That's what was refered by Craig as the USS Porksauce. And from the demo at Gamescon, it seemed to be more of a Consitution / Excalibur mod than an Excelsior mod.
