"First, you need line of sight to shoot a target, so you can run for cover behind a rock or something and not be shot. But more specifically, your personal shields on the ground regenerate quickly if you haven’t been shot – we call it a shield pop. So if you start getting in trouble, you want to run behind a corner really quickly, and your shields regenerate so you can rejoin the battle. We actually have a number of force field devices you can drop in the ground, which will provide cover for you to dodge behind.

It’s not a context-sensitive mechanic, where you push a button and go into a special cover mode with a defense buff or anything. The system is designed to keep you moving, not hiding behind things and watching your Bridge Officers fight. "

Am I the only one concerned about the twitch-style game play?

I wasn't expecting the ground combat to be slow and tactical in the first place, so not terribly.

As as aside, can anyone think of slow-paced, tactical third person shooters (or, more simply, non twitch)?

Does SWG with target lock turned off count? J/K (Hopefully STO is not trying that terrible approach.)

I guess I just worry that it will be a bit too twitchy for a casual mmo player. I just don't want to see a bunch of people resorting to runnning around you, jumping up and down and generally doing everything else they can to not get hit as is seen in most fps. If there is still some type of target lock, then no biggie. On the bright side, beta starts soon and hopefully all of us will get a chance to test it out and offer up some good, solid support!
