I understand that at launch it won't be possible to be onboard a fellow players ship wandering around the interior (its something I beleive they hope to do in the future) but I was just wondering whether or not there will be space stations ect and cities where players will be able to socialize?

From what I have found the only avatar meeting place is on an away mission... is there not some home worlds we can be on together? :)

Cheers

Zinc has said Starbase 1, DS9, Risa to name a few; I'm guessing Klingons will have their own as well...

I have been asking the same question myself. I want to board other ships to see their interior design. I think the problem for cryptic is that having that option requires another engine to run that capability, and would thus have to make such an engine. Which brings me to the conclusion that Cryptic either had not thought of it or they did not want to make the engine. But not to lose hope, I think if there is a large enough demand we will see it sometime after launch. So maybe if we keep buggin' Cryptic they might add that option.

I love how the tech says Track instead of Trek...
"Star Track Online"

(Just one of my little pet peeves, lol, nothing against the tech-guy)

I haven't seen this asked, or answered (but that doesn't mean it hasn't been), but in regards to player gathering hubs, will we also be able to hang out on Earth, Vulcan, etc? I've seen them mentioned in a dev chat/ask cryptic, but I don't know if they meant the planets themselves or just orbiting space stations.

I am a little concerned about the variety of different Space Station interiors.

I would like to see a Klingon Station to be very different to a Starfleet station, and both being different than say a Syndicate station or Romulan station.

Imo, I would have rather seen Starfleet Stations/starbases following more of this interior theme:

Or simply having a more TOS appearance. Starbase 1 looks too much like something from other Sci-Fi fiction, imo.

I really think this is helpful for immersion and not just player interaction. This was always a big missing item in Eve imo.

I stumbled across this concept art from Perpetual:

This is the color pallet I was expecting to see for Federation Stuff -- like Station 1.

Is what they show in the video, related to Canon some where (is that what Starbase interiors look like in Star Trek)? The colors seem too 'dark' and 'cold' when compared to the comfy style of the TNG Enterprise, for example.

I have always felt, from the photos that Cryptic has released, that the Federation settings were too dark.

So I have been paying attention when watching the movies and the shows lately. The later movies did seem to take a "darker" more dramatic lighting approach.

But clearly in the early movies and shows ... the Federation settings were bright and lively, while the Klingon and "bad guys" settings were the ones that were heavy on shadows and dramatic lighting.

I dunno ... I'm probably just too "old school". I prefer the earlier motif.

Consider this: in the TNG episode 'Yesterday's Enterprise', a timeline shift turns the Enterprise-D into a Galaxy-class Battleship - in this new timeline, the Federation are at war with the Klingons.

Why do I mention this? Well, the creators made a few changes to the sets and crew costumes...to make stuff look more military. But another thing they altered was the set lighting.

The Enterprise-D bridge in TNG was this brightly lit place with cool white light and soft beige colours.

The 'wartime' Enterprise bridge...has lots of shadows and lighting in dull blue. So it's got a lot of greyish tones, a lot of areas of black, and lots of blue glowing bits...

Oh, it wasn't just the bridge ... the corridors, the quaters, the stations ... even the silly storage bays always had amazing, cheery, lighting.

Sure there were times when they wanted to represent troubling or dramatic moments in these places where they would change the lighting .... but you get my point.

I don't know that its a show stopper for me ... I just prefer the difference. They have an Art Director and he has to do what he thinks is right ... I've just worked around enough creative people to know they almost ALWAYS feel they can do it better ... and they aren't necessarily right.

There's just some things that shouldn't be messed with.

It is not a show stopper for me either, but I have always equated ST Fed interiors with the 'overly bright and cheery' interiors. I mean the Kotor interiors look more like STO to me, than the ones in Craig's video.

But again, I am not a trekkie, so there might be some reference in cannon why the graphics look dark and cold in Fed Station 1.

Yeah I agree. I found the station to be unwelcoming from what I saw. To much cold steel.

Is this from Canon, or an artistic choice by Cryptic?
