I guess this debate will never cease. You really don't give the other side enough credit. What's the difference in having player starships captains on your team that are undependable, and player crew members that are undependable?

The point is, either way, play with people you know who are dependable. PUG's (pick up groups) will always be a grab bag.

This is something that can be done correctly and has been done correctly in other MMO's so its not a unrealistic goal. One quick example is the YT in SWG which you can have a full player crew arming the turrets and even individual people in charge of repairs and so on. Perpetual had good ideas on paper on how to incorporate it, and a few screen shots of some of the mini games people would play in some of the different positions. So yeah it can be done, off course it would be more of a challenge with the number of crews increases but still very doable.

Very nice! It is always good to try to interject humor into arguments when they start to grow stale and repetitive. However neat the idea of player-crews sound, I do think their implementation as a necessity would be a very bad idea.
