I'm noticing an awful lot of "heated" conversations on the boards today.

Let me make something perfectly clear to all of you. Flaming and trolling is not welcome on these forums, If I see it, it will be moderated and properly dealt with. The name calling, rude behavior, insults and other less than civil activities need to stop immediately. If you have an issue with something someone else has posted, report it. That is the only response you need to take. Calling other people trolls regardless of the truth behind it is not allowed by anyone on these forums except for me.

You are entitled to express your opinions on Star Trek Online in a calm, rational, polite manner on these forums. If the activity I have seen on these forums today does not stop, I will take the appropriate actions, and people will start having their accounts suspended temporarily, or be banned.

I would rather not have to do this, as I'm really rather fond of you all. However, please consider this as notice that I'm on a moderation warpath right now.

Shape it up, or face the consequences. The choice is yours.

Overall, this forum is WAY better than most, but I've noticed it getting a bit more hostile lately, too. I'm pretty sure it's a temporary thing, though.

I applaud your attempt to gain control Stormshade but I have to say, welcome to online gaming. If you really think this is bad right now you haven't seen anything yet. Wait until there is an official release date and word of your game reaches the masses.

I'm not trying to be condescending to you but am merely stating how it is going to be. I've been through a LOT of releases and forums. And as the game releases and progresses and things change in game...man, it just keeps getting harder and uglier.

I personally appreciate the way this forum is ran. Dissagreement is inevitable from time to time. The manner inwhich we discuss and carry out the resolution to that dissagreement is what determins the real charactor of a community.

IMHO .. there are entirely too many communities that seem to project the image that only a brutal, often unforgiving approach is the only way to get things done. That seems to be a reflection of the old addage "the squeeky wheel gets the greese". From there patrons will often simply blast the thunder out of anyone who gets in the way : if for no other reason to either prove, or make a point and to do so in such a fashion that few would dare to challange them for fear of retribution.

Some of us chose another path.

Models (for example) happens to be something I do as a hobby. Some of my criticism is often based on experience, back ground of a study done on 4 other games, two communities that do 3-d modeling based on Trek ... and other resources. By that same token I also know that much of it is personal design and taste.

Hopefully even when we offer critques and suggestions for STO (particularly in modeling for my self) ... it is not ignorerd simply because I don't peel the paint off the walls when we are discussing that and other subjects.

Bottom line: Keep up the good work watching over the community. Each of us should appoint ourself as a committee of one to help insure that Cryptic keeps a good healthy environment where we can continue to share ideas EVEN AFTER the game is released. IMHO that will be a real challange. That's why it's so important to set the proper tone now .... so that later it will make it much easier to KEEP it that way.

What OlBuzzard said!

I loved these forums until the last week or so. I like intelligent exchanges and debates (I believe we learn and grow if we listen to opposing opinions), I've come to respect some contributors, and appreciate (while maybe with a chuckle) others.

But I pretty much have been staying away from the forums for the last week or so because its just turned ugly.

I'm all for hot topics, even heated debates ... about the issue being discussed, not the person posting their opinion.

Thank you StormShade.

TOR is a tougher forum and people are allowed in many to work things out for themselves, and often do. This forum while moderated is moderated to heavily. While ofcouse there are some things that the Mods need to jump on and take are of, these boards are treated like children being hand-held. I like a little heavier moderation.

The interwebs is full of people who say things on forums they wouldn't say in person because they can get away with it. Civility is the first quality that is left behind. Mods add an element of oversight, an encouragement to appropriate behavior if you will.

I don't think these forums are moderated too heavily. I've seen the moderators pull the 'close' trigger a little too fast, but I can live with that for the sake of civility.

This is their forum, they pay for its hosting, they pay to have it moderated, they are responsible for what is said here, and what is said here effect their product.

When it comes to 'official' forums, I am more for a keep the peace approach and hold it to a slightly higher standard (keeping a more official standard when it come to mutual respect). Imo, the mods need to be heavy handed, to keep the bullies at bay, and foster an atmosphere where people feel comfortable discussing their opinions without having to deal with someone being overly disrespectful and rude.

The STO forums should be a place where someone that usually is a lurker on more aggressive forums, can feel motivated and comfortable posting their opinions and sharing in the conversations.

Well it would of been nice if a mod had stepped in on the lastest Xbox 360 thread, it pretty much just turned into PC elitist rants bad mouthing anyone who plays Xbox Live. But i guess thats ok.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Mods are busy with CO, so some of the stuff is falling through the cracks or sitting longer before responded to. Just report the stuff -- which I am sure you did -- and just hope they can get to it at some point.

My 1 infraction point has worn off, I'm free to call people names for their cultural heritage, race, country of birth... all I need is a target! he he he.....

Naturally I was joking... I'm a reformed character... and I'm not that nasty, I just called somebody an Idiot

Added: Apologies Stormshade for earlier post, i should of reported instead of jumping on the above mentioned horse.
