I would say that we won't see ST:O release for a minimum of 6 months, yes.(no closed beta yet; or any word on a release date; no hype machine etc; all things you would expect to see before the 6month time frame) Honestly though; I would really research if you want to play CO for that 6 months or not.
no hype machine
well hype has started. the magazine covers. But it's definitely not hype crazy yet,
I doubt were even close to 6 months from release. Maybe 6 months(or just under that) away from beta, but not release.

beta is starting this year (2009), as you can read on the CO homepage with the lifetime offer.
as we already know, it is not too far away - and it has also been hinted that it might not even be months away...
remember: CO is going gold now, very soon they won't need those beta servers over there... I hope we will all be pleasantly surprised by a september 2009 (or at least october) -start of STO beta!!!!

I think majority of this forum; and any one who can analyze MMO development times/procedures/etc would disagree with you.

I meant in time for Christmas, not necessarily spot on December 25th. But otherwise I stand by my previous statement, Mr. Overly Optimistic. I have watched these games being developed. It takes time. I don't want a buggy launch. Cryptic definitely doesn't want a buggy launch. They will **** the game when it is finished, which it definitely will not be in 6 months.

Considering everything points to closed beta soon, and already having extensively tested the engine(CO) there is no logical reason to think closed beta > release would take over a year. When all the "heavy testing"(engine related issues) have already been sorted and ironed out.

Cryptic has every excuse to take more time on this since they just bought the ip last year from someone who couldn't complete. Normally I would agree with you that developers allways need more time. For the first time I actually believe they will be around q1 next year. It is just that they have the infrastructure and the engine in place. Now they just need to tweak the engine, code the missions, game mechanics, add the graphics and game design, and get a good version of the genesis system in place. Also I believe that most all developers are ST ip fans and this is something they would do their best at regardless.

I agree everything I'v read and watched from the cryptic team working on this indicates that they are all fans of the Star Trek Universe and will be working hard towards not releasing a product thats below par from what I think most of us will be expecting...

ding ding... From which we can infer they have a game and it works. When the bugs they know about are handled then they will unleash a portion of the player base on it to find the ones they don't know about, and it would seem it will be soon. Also they have not released CO to the masses yet, that will come first, only makes sense as you have manpower issues to deal with. After that and maybe very soon after that we get CBeta and so on. I'm stoked. But being a Cryptic Fanboi as I hear I am I would be.

Let's not forget that Atari's president has expressed a desire to have STO out before the end of their fiscal year - in March 2010. This doesn't mean that the game will be out then but I'm sure Atari is putting the pressure on Cryptic now that they are the ones pulling the strings.

I was pretty sure the stock holders were actually told to expect it to be out by that time?

Even though I knew this already, seeing it repeated makes me very, very happy and totally reinforces my decision to go ahead and sign up for Champions Online in order to get access to the Star Trek Online beta. I don't even know if I am going to try out the other game at this point, mostly because I'm sure that once the beta for Star Trek Online begins that's where all of the time I spend on the computer will be going!

when close beta starts.. geting a key doesnt mean your going to get in close beta ASAP, it means you could get in close beta 3 or 4 months after closed beta started
but as Rekhan said, they havent goten to that point of who's going to be on the first wave of close beta keys

If you purchased a 6-monther/lifetime for CO, you should be fine. Cryptic works off of PDT time.

I'm so happy with my Lifetime membership, I want another. But then I'd need two computers, and I'd be teaming with myself
Last chance everyone, CO might not be for you but if you tried it, and really like it, I'd love to see you there with us for years to come....
Will we have time and money for two great MMOs? Well if I sat around and worried about hings like that, I'd never have any fun. I don't have tiime to finish some of the games I have on my shelves, yet I still buy more. I actually have a little bit of Mass Effect left I keep meaning to get to.

When the "Announced day is Set" (in stone) and We start to play, :)
I only hope that people Play the game and not "BOT" it like other MMO's. This is an Exploit that I hear of many other gamers are actually doing.
This really is not even a Skill but a cheat (of sorts) So maybe it could be eliminated by deleting abusers account(s)
Making at want to earn instead of the fact they're not even playing, basically lets not let a few abusers ruin what can be the Best of the best

I think your point was lost in that post, your location says you live in the U.S. so English is your native language I assume. So its confusing on why your post is so hard to read.
I guess your trying to say that you don't want people to cheat? Or use bots that automatically perform repetitive actions over and over?(which is going to happen anyways). Although I think rewording your post would be helpful it seems like you were typing to fast and your sentences got a little garbeled. (no offense intended).
As for the whole botting thing; its going to happen with any repetitive action that people don't want to do, and its quite hard to pinpoint people doing it based solely on server logs.

And you won't receive an email for a beta key because beta hasn't started yet!!
If you go to your Champions Online account, you should see that you have a reserve spot for Star Trek Online that is currently pending.
Once beta for ST:O has started, you will receive your beta key by email.

Not that I cause rebuttal, let alone "Flame" another person, It is you that need to read maybe even Re-read what exactly was being said and what it was in reference to.
I feel compelled to reply only because the thread was referencing What to be on the look out For, What an Admin/Moderator is advising to be on the lookout for.
You are actually going "off topic" which is another thing that Admins/Moderators should be on the "look out" for.
Thanks though as you have the right to express your opinion (you know what they say about opinions), right?
So lets not try to "Think" for one you make an assumption that is way out in left field ( too much sun, maybe:) ) but instead read what is being said and reply accordingly
Thanks for the future Respect..

Weeeell I plan to get a life time STO sub if the game is released and turns out not to be below my expectations. I doubt that though, since my expectations for everything ever are very low. Heaven? Probably it'll be like a slum ghetto. See what I mean?
