View Full Version : List, In Order of Importance, What You Want Post-Launch in STO

Let's face it, if STO is gonna lauch AT THE LATEST March 2010, then beta is not too far away, at most a month or two away. We know more than we might think about what kind of game is shipping at launch. We know what will be in the game and what won't and we know the features and type of gameplay it will be. I really think if you have watched all the preview videos and read all the Ask Cryptics and preview articles and followed the devs then you have a pretty good idea of what STO will be like.

That said, we also know the things that will be added post-launch. Let's make it a given that Cryptic will work on bugs and server stability and things like that no matter what. Make a list in order of importance of what you want added in an expansion pack or free update. I think there will likely be mulitlpe expansion packs over the years. Here is my list.

1. Personal ship interiors (persistent and main areas like bridge, engineering, captain's quarters, mess hall).
2. Player crews (just the ability for a few other players to join with you as bridge crew, and it should be possible to have a Guild hall run a capital starship like a Sovereign Class or Galaxy Class crewed with dozens or hundreds of crewman, all RPing).
3. New playable race or races (Could be Cardassian, Dominion, Romulan, Andorian, or Vulvan).
4. New space sectors (new areas in the Beta or Gamma Quadrant).
5. New ships and weapons

Over all I would say that I would have to try the game before deciding what it needs. But, If I answered with the choices you have I would go for.,,

1. Personal ship interiors (persistent and main areas like bridge, engineering, captain's quarters, mess hall).

When a topic hits 40 pages(random number), I want to see an official response; not just the community hoping. Part of that subscription fee we are paying should be going towards community reps that interact with the community; not just "moderate". I've seen multiple titles in the past with absolutely no dev communication post release; which leads developers down the wrong road in post-development which then leads to lower sub numbers/****ed customers which then snowballs etc.

Just focusing on stuff that'll happen definitely post-launch (as opposed to stuff I hope will make it in before launch, like Ship's Dedication Plaques and Captain's Logs):

1. Customizable ship interiors.
2. Ship interior functionality (being able to train with my team on the holodeck, for example. Or toggle to bridge view during warp travel).
3. Being able to visit/socialize on each others' ships.
4. Cardassian Faction
5. Romulan Faction
6. Dominion

Your other choices seem cool. Altough with the destruction of Romulus I don't care to play as them anymore.

Id have to say.....

2. Trophy/Collectables room.....Something like the room Data was forced to stay in, in the TNG Episode The most toys
3. Holodeck, with a few programs

Cant think of anything else id personally like to see.....

I agree, entirely, with everything here. In the order you said 'em. Ship interiors are very important to me, but it's probably not enough for them to be there and just look pretty. Ideally they should do something.

Factions...I think it'd be cool to have more factions. I want to see more factions. I think Cardassian and Romulan ships are awesome. I fear we'll only see new factions further down the line, though, when the game's more established.

1. Circumnavigatable planets with random content ie buildings, ruins, life, mass effect type debris, abandon ships, notes, maps, books, caverns.
2. Proceedurale building generator. I would like to see a building generator that could generate a veriety of floorplans put roofs over them and decorate the structures for 1. see above.
3. If they can take from the IP material i would like to see everything trek available in game. All of the series streamed, all of the books, all of the music, blueprints and have them as content drops for 1. see above. Players could trade and try to collect all their favorite series. I believe tos is free on the website now.
4. The ability to board hostile ships lead my npc's against the enemies and capture the enemy ships.
5. I would like to be able to leave the factions and go freelance.
6. Play as other factions such as ferengi.
7. Lots and lots of content everywhere.

Being able to use opposite faction ships would make things too much of a "cluster %$#^" in a battle. Having to look closer to be able to tell who is actually who; rather then look at hull design.

I just said I wanted to be able to capture the enemy ships. If it is too much of a problem for me to use the ship perhaps I could tow it back to starbase encase the federation needs it for some reason. Or perhaps I could tow it to my hangar and collect enemy ships without flying them around.

2. I like the andrewprofit's idea of capturable ships. Let us capture NPC ships and bring them back to Star Fleet for lewt. Let us capture PC ships for PvP rainkings or sector controll.
3. Holodeck programing system. Kinda like CoX Architect system except have both space and ground combat options aviable.

These two races are already playable as part of the Federation as has been stated multiple times. You can even see them in the trailers / gameplay videos we've seen so far.

As for things I'd like to see added following launch of the game..

1. Customizable ship interiors.
2. Customizable Fleet Starbases / Outposts (Where you can even customize shops, your own bar, the NPCs at the various establishments, customizable crew quarters for your fleet members, etc.)
3. Additional career paths. (Intelligence, Command)
4. Romulan, Cardassian and Dominion playable factions (all seperate)
5. More possibilities for role-players (so far i see a lack of this in Champions. your character can't even sit right now in CO.)

That's all i can think of right now.

I think personal ship interiors, along with a new faction (I'm not so sure about the Romulans as that faction anymore, though) would make for a great 1st expansion pack/major patch later on down the road.

Those are the 2 biggest things on my wish list for post launch content.

I honestly don't care about player crews -- I'm okay with teaming up with other captains to complete missions. I don't want to hit a situation where I need to have four other people logged into the game at any time I want to be effective in the game. I really don't want to be chief science officer in a ship someone else captains, and not be able to move the ship around when he's not online. ;)

That said, I'm not against player crews. I'm entirely okay with A) people agitating for them and B) Cryptic implementing them. It's just not one of my own wants.

I think they're definitely one feature. I mean, why would Cryptic give us customizable interiors but not the ability to walk around them? Or invite other players over?

For me, it's a no-brainer. When they implement customizable interiors, they wil make it with some functionality and the ability to walk around and invite other players over.

And I agree, I don't want player crews to be required to complete missions. But it would be cool to have the option to team up with other captains to explore space and complete missions.

Practicality, really. It'll be one thing to actually implement the interior in a way that we can tweak and 'look at.' Actually giving those interiors something to do will require a lot more man hours of development. And then being able to invite people over would be a third thing.

Suffice it to say, they're all high up on my list, however. ;) But, if all they can give me is the ability to play around with customization to start with, I'd rather have that than wait for everything to be read.

I wouldn't really call it a separate thing form making interiors in the first place; as it would just work like all instanced housing works in other titles; its not that "hard" to do and wouldn't be anything new to the genre.

I'm not really down with Player Crews, doesn't appeal to me. One person steers, another person shoots, another person runs the energy distribution, etc. Doesn't seem like very much fun on a regular basis.

I wouldnt mind seeing support for using a 360 controller for windows, if its not already available at launch. there shouldnt be much button mashing, you got phasers and torpedos, or phaser rifle and melee. should be fairly easy to adapt.

I would dearly love to be able to build a Ferengi Merchant Marine ship, but I suspect that'll be quite a ways off since the Ferengi are a Federation playable race. (I'm really looking forward to the Path to 2409 that explains that one. ;)

Over in Ten Forward I tried to put forward one means by which a traditional Ferengi could justify being a Starfleet Officer and still... you know, be Ferengi. Whether or not I was successful is another question.

1) An accolades or commendations achievements in the game to be awarded to members of Starfleet or the KDF for reaching certain benchmarks (x quests completed, x nebulas scanned, kill % in the neutral zone..) Things that showcase dedication to fields of study (like a collections system.)

2) Fleet Starbases. Be nice to be able to create your own starbase for your fleet...complete with the ability to create quests and random attacks against your outpost. ((possibly created along the neutral zone for faction based content.)

3) Ship interiors, especially the ready room. I really want a wall of ships :)

4) Transarp zones to explore known space (known meaning shown in the series) in the Gamma and/or Delta Quadrants.

5) Expansion Content: Added Romulan/Cardassian faction complete with a "mercenary" system (ability to sell services in PvP to either faction, or fight for their own.)

Content Update:

Ship Interiors for Social Purposes. Ships should be our "housing" in my opinion. From our private captian's quarters, to the bridge, ready room, and observation lounge. Multiple (read: lots and lots!) of mounting points for trophies, decorations, etc. With this, other players should be able to visit our ships' interiors.

Randomly generated areas for planets created by the "Genesis" engine. We really need to be able to explore the universe from more than just our ships. Randomly generated planet-side mobs, missions/quests, terrain, structures, etc. would be a huge help. It doesn't have to be fancy and well-designed, just randomly generated from art tiles, textures, structures, etc. Otherwise exploring the universe from just our ship doesn't seem quite as appealing.

Expansion Pack:

Multiple, new factions to play. Romulan, Cardassian, and Ferengi come to mind. Even a 'faction' to cover independent rogues with no alliance or alliance to small factions would be nice. This "other" category could includes smaller factions such as the Maquis, mining organizations, cargo running operations, etc. Each of these factions would have their own ship lines, bases, home worlds, and objectives of course.

Additional worlds and quests. As with any expansion pack for an MMO, I'd expected entirely new areas with tons of new quests.

I personally think that ship interiors are desirable, but for different reasons to those stated.

I'd love to see mobs intercept me at warp and then attempt to board, changing the game to be part character controlled combat but also the disposition of friendly forces to protect vital ship areas (nothing particularly graphical, floor plan of 2-3 decks and dots representing crew, if enemy penetrates then that subsystem takes damage)

Bridge being vital to protect of course.

I'm assuming that subsystems can be targeted. After years of Bridge Commander I can't imagine space combat being fun if it's just shield/hull. I want a quick win by disabling a ship or taking out its weapons so it warps away. Not seen any mention of such things in videos so far.

I have reams of ideas for what I;d like to get a real hands-on feel to Star Trek, but I doubt such things will be included in STO. Bridge Commander 2 anybody?

For STO I;d really like to see diplomatic/scientific mission outcomes, plus gains to be made through knowledge of ST lore. Not "if you don't know you can't prevail" but if you know something about Star Trek (or general skills) you can bypass a "normal user" section of the mission for better rewards. For example, using an anti-matter pulse to shake a tractor beam on your ship (should it arise in a mission-critical context) or by disabling an enemy ship that would otherwise warp away.

Part of being a Captain (acting or otherwise) is that you have the leeway to try and predict a situation and preempt it.

Really looking forward to exploring procedurally generated clusters though.

1. Captains quarters or other room to store items collected in missions and models of ships I've commanded, or destroyed. Also we need to be able to invite others to this room.

2, Bridge and a few other interiors even if they are all the same for each ships with maybe just a few differences in regards to the size of the vessal, such as sickbay, engineering, shuttlebay, and transporter room. Even if they are not fully fuctional. Though I want the shuttlebay and transporter rooms to fill their purpose of allowing us to come and go from ships.

3. Other playable factions, not sure what order I want them in but I want Romulan and Dominion factions to come first.

Oh, I think it was a hoot in SWG. And in STO it would be even better, since the ships are bigger and more complex. I think it would be a fun side thing to do once in a while, but I agree not a permanent gameplay feature.

Kudos for this list! I totally think this is a cool list. What do you hope to see in a Civilian Faction? More opportunities for non-combat gameplay, perhaps some civilian jobs or civilian spaceships?

Post launch I want to see some room for user created content.

Not crazy mods like a Uber-Leet-Instakill-Mega-Gun, but a place for fans to create their own planets/cities so that friend A can visit friend B's "homeworld" and stuff like that. I know there are problems with the idea but I enjoy being able to create part (even a small part) of a game.

I Don't care if it would be customizable or not, if/when they first do it.
As I think about it the ability to customize could be tied to an award one gets for achieving a certain rank as a handy excuse to buy time till it got done.
