My question is do ya'll think that we will be able to press a key to go to Yellow Alert?,then Red?
This could be just like going to general quarters.

If your at yellow or red alert then it's more unlikely that your crew will be killed from incomeing fire, but there must be a penalty for it because then i would be at red alert 24/7. :D

And being able to turn your sheilds off and on as needed?

Example: Federation cruiser in a far off quandrant of space,it's all quite while your taking saple readings of a near astroid for research, while your ship is makeing it's scans your sitting at the key coard reading a Tom Clancey Novel.

All of a sudden your ops officer abounces that a Klingon BOP has just uncloacked off your starboardbow.

Your would emidiatley push lets say the "S" key to raise sheilds and hit "A" to raise first to yellow then to red Alert.

Then do something elts to ready weapons, you would then scan the vessel and see what it's tactical readyness is.

IF the BOP has it's Sheilds and weapons armed and has a firing solution on you, then you know hes lookin for a fight.

It could turn out to get kinda complex but there could be an easyer way to control these functions im sure.

Ive seen somewhere in these forums where combat would be rather slow and such during ship to ship combat and fast paced for ground away teams.

What do you think?,would it not be cool and "trekkish" to be able to take combat that seriousely if you could run your tactical station to that amount of detail?

You want to go to red alert? Are you sure, it does mean having to change the bulb.

Well, Cryptic already said that you will need to divert power to different systems depending on the situation, so if you're not in combat you can put all your power into your engines and get around a bit faster. If you're always at Red Alert, you're going to be diverting power to weapons and shields, making your ship fly considerably slower. That sounds like a fair compromise to me.

Are they all burnt out again? Didn't I tell you to get the fancy screwy ones? They last so much longer.

But yes, "Red" and "Yellow" alert will probably both automatically raise the shields at the push of a button.

I imagine they will have something like this set up. After all, it is a Trek staple and no other sci fi show bothers with different alerts. They would be silly NOT to include this.

Remember what the different alerts are for:

Yellow Alert
A Yellow Alert or Condition Yellow is a raised state of alertness, which can be called via a command by an officer or automatically by the ship's onboard computer upon detection of a threat. Additionally, Starfleet can issue a fleet-wide order placing all ships on Yellow Alert

Red Alert
Red Alert is a Starfleet alert state in the Star Trek fictional universe. A state of Red Alert may be called on starships, installations, regions, or the entire fleet. When Red Alert is called on board a ship, the lights dim, the forcefield shields are activated, the ship's weapons are brought online, red-alert lights are illuminated, the crew maintains a heightened state of readiness, and all holodecks must cease. The Red Alert state in the fictional Star Trek universe is similar to a call to General Quarters aboard real-life U.S. Navy vessels.

Blue Alert
A Blue Alert, also known as Code Blue or Condition Blue is an alert signal status used in the Star Trek universe to indicate a situation on a starship or outpost such as docking maneuvers, separation maneuvers, landing, or an environmental issue.

-Star Trek: The Next Generation used this alert for an environmental system disruption in the episode "Brothers".
-A Prometheus-class starship goes to blue alert when it activates multi-vector assault mode.
-The USS Voyager used blue alert when landing on a planet in the Star Trek Voyager episodes "The 37s" and "Demon".
-The USS Defiant went to blue alert when engaging its cloaking device.

Haveing the ships onboard commputer set the Alert status sounds much less commplicated.

Maybe the can have a "tiredness" penalty for being on constant red alert as that would be nerve-wracking. :p

Tactical: "Kilngons decloaking to port sir!"

Captain: "Scotty! Bring up the red bulbs, we're going to battle stations"

Engineering: "Get the damned bl**dy redshirts to do it! I've seen how those panels are always explodin'!"

Captian: "Ok, how many redshirts does it take to change a lightbulb?"

Ohhh, the priceless setup to a bad joke... Who could resist?

I agree. I hope there will be something like Star Trek Bridge Commander put into place or like SFC.
In BC you had a penalty for being at Red alert to long, so you may have to adjust other settings like sensors inorder to keep your sheilds up..

They had the Warp Core charge the Main Battery, and The Emergency back up Battery. Once you ran out of battery you were very sluggish untill you recharged one of your ship batteries.

We will need some reason to be at green alert or it makes the whole point of changing between red, yellow, and green almost pointless.

I am mistaken, In SFC 3 you needed to shut off your shields weapons and engines to go undetectable while spying on some romulans.

I hope that this will have some bearing in STO. When you are at RED alert It is easy for the other faction to detect your ship. Being at Red Alert is more or less a waste of energy unless you are trying to relay a message to someone like "watch yourself and don't mess with me cuz I see you over there looking very suspicious."

My guess would also be that repairs are faster when not in red alert/combat.
