I was just watching X-play on G4 T.V. this morning. They announced a report from Atari (owner of Cryptic Studios) that STO will not be released until March 31, 2010 (the last day of the company's fiscal year.)
I was surprised by this news coming from Atari on G4 T.V. and not being announced by Cryptic on this site as Zinc had previously said. Just passing on what was said....don't kill the messenger.

Kind of old news, Atari said in one of there reports that STO would be out before the end of there fiscial year, which is March 31st 2010, so I assume G4 is just using that info. I think it was released quite awhile ago.

I take anything coming out of G4 with a grain of salt, even X-play has deteriorated since they changed to that network.

mmm agreed though, The longer we have to wait as frustrating as it can be, means the better the game may be when we do actually get it :)

I think its great news, the game has only been in development for a year and a half and they plan on launch by March 31st- in terms of MMO development we would be lucky to see it by then.

TechTV and G4 merged (sort of) most of TechTV's shows got canceled and many of them including X-play got a "face lift" for better or worse.

I would say it is pretty obvious that X-Play just misread the Atari statement. Quality Journalism. Might as well get your news from TMZ.

You just found that out from G4 and there have been posts about this for about the last week several of which were on the front page this morning :p See why G4 is not the best source ;)

LOL...it's all fun and games till we hit the field of battle. I will plant the Flag of the Klingon Empire on top of Starfleet Headquarters. So the wait (for the release) will give me time to plan my glorious conquest. (too much time on my hands, I know).....

Yea, TechTV, ZDTV (the best iteration), and G4 are all the same channel ... its just their composition under different owners. I don't even watch G4 anymore .. I used to have ZDTV and TechTV on in the background all the time.
When I do watch G4, its when I TiVo X-Play and that's only when they have a game review I want to see. Even X-Play is pretty lame. If it weren't for Morgan Webb, the show would get NO attention from me.
As for the release date ... I take that with a grain of salt ... we've known for a while that Atari wants to get those numbers into this fiscal year, but wants are often disappointed by reality. Until I see an open beta date, its all vapor-ware to me.

Release dates for MMOs are pretty slippery things. From a business stand point they really really really want to get it out before the end of a fiscal year, otherwise all they have on their books are losses. Sadly investors don't take a long-term approach.
As long as the Dev team is pretty happy with the game when it releases (nothing is perfect at launch) I will be happy. Using arbitrary deadlines usually leads to big headaches and low turnout.

I think I'll patiently wait until Cryptic Studios announces an official release date on this website. I'm not going to believe what X-Play or Amazon indicates since they are not the ones releasing the game.

I miss TechTV :( G4 isn't nearly as good imo (although, occasionally their Movies That Don't Suck.... don't suck :P)
I truly hope (and believe) that date is a ballpark figure. However, if it doesn't come out until the end of March, that just means more time to polish the game, I guess.

Man, everytime i turn on G4, it is always that hot chic and dorky dude talking about nonsense. Hard to get any real info out of them. Anyhow, if it is March 31st, 2010, that is awesome! But I take all dates with a grain of salt and games usually come out when they are done, not before. It is a nice date to shoot for and a realistic one if they have progressed as much as they have. We will really know once beta goes into full swing, then we'll have a much better idea when it will get released. So really, all we can really assume, is 2010.

Yeah, but Morgan Webb (http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/webb.jpg) is still hot.

No matter what the journalism source, you have to take it with a grain of salt and scour the web to make sure the information your getting is correct.
Personally, I watch Xplay every weekday but I've always went to the source for the best information. ex. MW2, SC2, SWTOR, and of course STO.

I'm just gonna hope that Atari even hits that date of March 31st, 2010. Most games get delayed, especially MMOs, so as long as the game releases before next summer I'll be... ok, I guess lol.
