This may have already been posted so if it has feel free to direct me there.

How is navigation going to be handled? Will it be more like EVE where you travel mostly from one target to the next? Or will it be more a waypoint/minimap system? I guess what I'm saying is that I'm very interested in the exploration and discovery, so could a just point my ship in any direction and just go?

It's kind of a variation on WASD. You can change your max speed by pressing something like 2 to go faster, 1 to go slower, then W climbs up, A banks left, S dives down, and D banks right...

So no, it's not like EVE.

It should be waypointing... "Set a course for X" is not WASD travel...

There may be an aspect of waypointing, they've mentioned setting waypoints in sector space when going to warp. The WASD setup is for when you are in a system where you are at impulse speeds.

For warp travel, my impression is that we'll be able to set a course to some distant destination, hit the warp drive and just beeline for it across the galaxy. This is different from Eve which is more of a "system hopping" mechanic.

Also, for extremely distant destinations, STO will have some sort of trans-warp tunnels or wormholes so that if you are traveling halfway across the entire galaxy you don't get saddled with an hour-long warp journey.

See in "Starfleet Academy" in-system navigation you used the Num pad (8,4,2,6) with 7 decelerating, 9 accelerating, 5 all-stop, 1 roll port, 3 roll starboard, and +,- cycled targets but when it can to warp you picked a system and hit warp.
I know the Devs want exploration to be a big part, and I know I'll push that to the limit, but there has to be some way to travel at warp while controlling with wasd. If not then you're only going to effectively be able to travel to mapped locations.
What I'd love to see is a Map sharing system, if space is going to be as big as advertised no one will ever get everywhere, though I'll try(I don't ever plan on using whatever fast-travel system the create), so they should let you share your star-maps with your buddies.
Speaking of discovering new systems, has anyone read the STO wikipedia article? Has there been any word about if you could really build your own starbase, etc.? That would be amazing. I'll just find a good out-of-the-way PvP land area that's not to secluded and set up the new Maquis or my own band of Orion Pirates, and prey on ships that approach! Argh! :p

On that note, they said things about fleet objects before; but have gone into 0 detail about it. We have absolutely no idea how fleet, fleet actions, fleet resources/management etc will be handled. Its quite sad too, as it is one of the largest deciding factors of if I pick up the game or not.

LOL! Unnecessary, we all know what Wikipedia is. That's why I asked here if anyone had heard such things from another source. Many lies are based on some kind of truth.

They have said that at launch there will be no fleet owned items or ships

*BUZZ* WRONG!!!

Wikipedia saves the ones MAC address of the ones computer, so IF that someone would write something stupid or TOTALLY wrong, he'll have to pay a high fix fee!

It happened. I heard it like 5 times in 5 months. It was about 450 Euros or more...
