Disclaimer - I did use the search feature, nothing returned.

Will players be allowed the ability to mod the UI at least in look, if not data presented. I'm not asking for WoW add-ons that basically allow you to easy mode the game even further. Changing the way the interfacde looks and presents any data normally available to players in the locations they want, is what I'm looking forward to.

I've never seen a modern MMO that didn't allow this.

It appears that there will be. Knightofhyrule over in the "Meet and Greet in Vegas info" mentioned "GUI Moveable", so it sounds we'll have a modicum of control at the very least. I'm not sure about color, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Supreme commander (or gpgnet) has a really nice system for obtaining not only third party mods but also user interfaces. I think it's a good example of how it should be done if cryptic will allow the third party mods to some extent.

I enjoy customizing my own UI, I honestly think I spent as much time perfecting my UI as I did playing some MMOs. I am so thankful that WoW's UI is so flexible. I disliked the stock WoW UI. I found it funny too that the users were able to produce much smoother and nicer UIs.

But then again, I really hope that the UI in STO is so good and covers all the needs and wants of the community that there isn't much need for UI mods. I hope it is customizable, but I hope there isn't much need to do so.

UI's are usually one of the last things 'finalized' in a game, in my experience.

However, I believe Nebraska_Dave reported that in his Demo play at the LV Meet and Greet, he was able to move around the various UI elements. So unless there is a reason they decide to remove that aspect out, it looks like movable UI is in.

Imo, I think WoW has the best example of a UI and of UI customization, even just on a basic 'Graphic' standpoint. One can see the wide range of customization that WoW's UI allows:

While I would not want to see exploitable mods like 'Decursive -- which was a one click remove all debuffs action -- I do think WoW's system allows for some create customization.

This would be realted to UI then, what is everyone's stance on macros in the game? Personally I love some of my WoW macros, but I am hoping that for STO they will not be needed, possibly not even allowed. My main problem comes from my experience with UI and Macros that allowed Multiboxers to dominate.

Personally I am hoping that the UI will be compact and simple enough that there is no need for changing it or writing macros. It would keep everyone on an equal footing.

I hope it is possible to a great extent. I want to make a very nice Romulan one for my fleet.

Movable is good! But will we be able to remap keys? Anyone heard anything from the devs on this?

In his interview with Ablegamer, Craig/Zinc states:
Zinkievich: We have thought about accessibility issues. For example, all of our keybinds are re-mappable, a seemingly simple feature that allows for many different ways to allow people to get the main controls for the game in a place that works for them.

I am okay with macros to a point.

One click to raise shields and power weapons = good
WoW's Decursive Mod = Bad.

I am also interested is we will see a 'FOLLOW IN FORMATION' macro/ability -- where say a group of BoP Players can form a group, then follow one player, but in say a delta wing formation instead of a train.

Macros are a different subject but somewhat tied into the UI. I used macros extensively in both EQ and SWG. They were always using the mechanics ingame, and never through third party software or hardware. In SWG I relied heavily on recursive macros when I played my doctor, and to a lesser degree, my officer post-NGE. If recursive macros were limited in nature to not give any player a benefit over another I am all for them. The system should be robust yet simple, and at the very least allow players ti tie together several functions/actions as we would see them in an episode of Trek.

Edit: Just read Lokeii's post on macros, and I think he and I are in almost total agreement, especially macros for fleet actions, specifically formations.

I loved the countless mods that tweaked how your UI worked, as well as the flexibility of Eve's =)

I hope there's true customization as well ~
