Cryptic showed off the game.

I think maybe there's a difference between ship interiors and PLAYER ship interiors. I'm pretty sure you'll be boarding NPC ships rather often in the game. Still, it'd be great if player ship interiors were available at launch.

They had previously stated that there would be specific ship/station interiors.
I would take the info from the Demo with a grain of salt -- as in be wary of projecting it farther than what was specifically said, etc.

Just as an FYI, that statement came from the Hailing Frequency podcast report from Athos. Craig said that Interiors would be around, but not customizable at launch.
I too am wondering the extent of what we can do in our own ships, or if it was still restricted to missions only.

I'm finding this hard to believe, after they flat out told us that there will be no ship interiors at launch. Maybe they changed their minds and decided it had to have at least some presence to begin with.

But there will be times when you will go inside other ships and your ship for missions. That's it. End of discussion. Do no pass Go, Do not Collect 200 latinum.

I listened to the pod cast, but I don't normally pay attention to HF, so I don't know their style.
Also, the guy who was doing the pod cast had very little experience with MMOs (his own words). He wasn't even sure what a "starter ship" was.

HF is alright until individuals push an agenda. Overall, I think they could do a lot of good for Trek Gaming, but some of the personal campaigns amongst Star Trek Fans could also strike some pretty big blows. That certainly is not unique to their community, in fact some of the Fan sites are just crud, so who's to say
But since you mentioned the "style" - yes, HF has a long track record of .... ummmm..... keeping their audience up to date with the latest breaking info - so to speak. *wink* ;)

Agreed...this subject has been beat to death many times.
It's not even beating to death. That, at least, I could have fun with.
It's about people seeing the phrase "there will be interiors" and not being able to understand that interiors covers almost everything that happens on away missions.
It's like someone saying "There will be food" and you assuming that it's an open buffet instead of a scheduled, pre-prepared meal.

I know what it was. It was that pod cast.
All it took was something along the lines of "Craig said we'd see the inside of our ship, but it wouldn't be customizable". Which we already knew. You can't customize a pre-scripted mission. But people assumed it was more then what they said it was. Kinda like everything else about STO. Except maybe the custom race creator.

I like the speculation that we won't miss being able to do rolls. I had that impression from CO, since the fighting is heavy action... I'll probably do alright, but my theory is people will pick up the techniques in this game and the battles will be more epic than anything we've seen in Star Trek games, hence making the rolls issue a bit moot. I can't wait for my first day behind the wheel.

Well if all the weapons have the same power/damage meter and it's front and back only (with wide firing arcs to hit those side targets) then rolling is very moot.

It was stated in one of the previous "Ask Cryptic" and also in an interview that ship interiors would be playable during missions, but not whenever the player wanted. Being able to walk about your ship and customize the interior will come later on in development. It's understandable...that is a lot to accomplish before game release and I can certainly wait a while before being able to wander around the inside of my ship.

Yes he did. But the context is "for a mission" not "whenever you want" especially since he has repeatedly said we won't be able to do it when we want.

I think this still probably leaves the uninitiated non-MMO user in the dark as to the behind the keyboard mechanics that accomplish going from being your ship to being your avatar in a virtual space with other avatars.
If it is immersive, you will probably dock at the station (or beaming would be a good load screen metaphor as well). There might be a brief cinematic or a load screen that informs you of your avatar's change of status. Once you've "appeared" on your computer screen again, your body will be the center of your movement instead of your ship and you will be in a new surrounding that you can move your body avatar around in instead of moving your ship. If you re-entered the airlock (might be a good load metaphor) and re-entered your ship you'd be in the sector space zone and your ship would be controlled by the WASD keys.
In the station everyone can see each other's body avatars and there are a lot of chat and communication gizmos that help grouping and selling and social contact.
Of course, I might have missed the point of Isengardtom's question completely.

Maybe you can do missions "Whenever you want" like they figured a way to keep generating "open" interior missions.... Meaning there's always a strange sound to investigate or a concerning light on the panel, even a Jeffries tube that could use another cleaning. In other words, you don't actually wander your ship as a persistant environment, but there's often an "event" you can que.
Just a speculation but there will be a lot of people who would actually say "Look they did include Interiors" and never worry about the fact that they are not technically persistant custom interiors.

Nothing has changed with ship interiors folks.. Craig was just saying the same thing he has said before. Ship interiors are mission based. You may have a mission that occurs inside a ship, but you can not run around inside your ship (or anyone elses ship) unless it's part of a mission.
He also said that we want to be able to give you personal ship interiors, but not until we can give you the ability to customize them, and currently these features will not be availible at launch.
So nothing has changed... no new information here.. However we did show off some pretty cool stuff, I'm surprised no one here is talking about that :)

For what ever it's worth .. I'm personally not so concerned about playing inside the ship as I am having really good missions that me and my buds can run togeather (AKA good contient)... REALLY good ships (if you catch my drift) and being able to maybe even customize those things around those aspects of the game to our personal liking (such as a really good player interface page.)

Indeed! I used to be a member of Stonewall Fleet on here...it had about 100 members and all were GLBT friendly...but for some reason the site went down and I haven't been able to make contact with the top brass so after a while I joined a different fleet.
I'm not sure if ship interiors are all that important if every player is a captain. (Though it does seem a little odd for a bunch of captains to be going on away missions together).

"Down the Road" is customizable, player ship interiors. Which is something they WANT to do, but won't say they definitely will until the game releases and they know what people want.
My understanding is that the list of "What to do once the game launches" is as follows:
Fix Bugs
Fix Balance
Customizable, Player Ship Interiors
Other Faction
This list could change. We could find out that the game needs another faction more then player ship interiors.

Definitely currently most players want player ship interiors most. I've read threads that ask this question, and a large majority want ship interiors before a new faction or space content.
I also want ship interiors first.

Yes, now. BUT our opinions could change once the game comes out. It's happened before and it'll happen again. Better to wait until you know for sure then to assume and be wrong.

I want a new faction or player made starbases before interiors (although, player made starbases would make sense to be in conjunction with interiors).
Just to reiterate what Gozer and some others have stated. Zinc said something standard like, "You will be able to travel to interiors of ships during missions, but they won't be customizable and romable at launch."
He wasn't trying to deceive or anything, there was just a miss communication with IRC it seems. This is how rumors are started!!!! :p

So true, I'm holding my "I want" posts until after launch... then I'm demanding Jedi.

hahaha nope not me. I've never dresssed as a jedi and the only sort of Con I've ever been to was E3 years ago. Though Vulcans might make good Jedi that whole detachment thing is tricky when you express your emotions. :D

Ok, didn't think so, but I thought I'd ask. Stupid internet and it's inability to send body language via text.

There is no absolute.
The game could tank on day 1 and Cryptic could be dismantled.
However, if everything goes well, there aren't any other major problems, and everyone still wants roamable, customizable, interiors, then yes. They'll put them in.
But that's a Big IF.

So I'm going to have to find someone down the road to reproduce "Mit und Gegen (http://img2.allposters.com/images/PF_New%5C442008/4333114.jpg)" so I can hang it in my ready room where Picard had the huge painting of the Enterprise-D.
Also there will be no damn fish... I have a cat.

Does anyone here REALLY think they will EVER actually have ship interiors or are they just trying to appease the masses. Cuz if ya think about it how many ships will we be having? on both sides? over 15 at least right,, 20? so thats< im not sure how many> like 20 different ship interiors, a tall order. Is cryptic really gonna make a unique interior for each? I doubt it ... when the "interiors" do come out prolly like a year from release,,, they will prolly be a rdy room, bridge and mebbe one other room all generic all the same in each ship, and i doubt about the "run around in your ship" factor as well. Cryptic hasnt really sounded to enthused about interiors, and it seems like they just want the problem to go away. I might be wrong this is only my current opinion,,, in response to this thread but if anyone knows fer sure plz let me know/correct me I am curious. However atm this seems like "how it is" Thnx your xpndblecrewman..

I had a few dogs as a kid but with me being out of the house as much as I am between college, the national guard and my feeble attempt at a social life I wanted a pet that's a little more low mantiance. That and its fun to watch my cat try to fly and bunny hop across the living room. And she could totally eat Picards dumb fish.

I had a cat as a kid that had been born in the wild, we got a fish tank once... she thought it was a feeding bowl. :D

They won't necessarily make every last iota of the ship explorable. If I had to take a guess, I'd say Ready Room, Bridge, and your personal quarters for sure, and probably Engineering as well. They have said they want to make them customizable though, so even if they're generic templates, you'll be able to make it unique.

Yeah it will be somewhat difficult but not impossible.
SWG has one of the most versatile crafting and home/ship interior abilities in the MMO industry and they had them 4 years ago maybe longer.
If I can remember, there were about 12 different variety of houses and about 8 others including cantina's, theaters, guildhalls, city halls and that was housing. Then there were the 8 ship interiors including gunships, yachts, and the yt-'s.
It was done in both chapter releases and expansion packs. I expect if the game goes well, Cryptic will be doing this for all the ships.

Nope... I don't think we'l get them. Maybe in a very long time if in fact they are needed to appease the masses then. But that is the driver in their decision. This was why I set the record straight in the original discussions.
FACT: They have not indicated that they have done anything, including locking into doing them - ever. They never promissed them, they probably are not working on them - and to answer your question, they will have no interest in making them once we start playing if we aren't demanding them.
Look at it this way:
If we socialize in a way that symbolizes the social usefulness of interiors and we still are demanding them feverishly, they'll get right to work on them. If we don't make a fuss about it, why risk putiing a complex feature in that we really won't miss in the grand scheme of things?

I doubt there will be ship interiors for awhile, if ever. Just think of this game as another Eve-Online, with downgraded graphics. Oh forgot we can beam down to planets and do missions, but that can change as well. lol

Oh FOR THE LOVE OF CODE!
MISSION SHIP INTERIORS! That's all it is. That and some social hubs in starbases.
YOU CAN NOT GO INTO YOUR SHIP AT ANY TIME!!!!!!
BUT.... YOU WILL GO INTO YOUR SHIP FOR MISSIONS!
Sorry to scream, but I'm sick and tired of people jumping to conclusions without understanding the context. We've been told over and over again that you can't go into your ship when you want. You can't customize the inside of your ship. And every time you DO go into your ship, it's specifically for a mission. No free roaming, no functional consoles, no visit to your quarters or ready room. Hell, no bridge view.
But there will be times when you will go inside other ships and your ship for missions. That's it. End of discussion. Do no pass Go, Do not Collect 200 latinum.
Case ****** Closed.
oh i so love monopoly!

end goal would be to have persistant ship interiors for players to go and do whatever they want to do. Explore the ship or anything. I believe it was mentioned awhile back we'll eventually get all the important parts of the ship

Yeah I think you guyz are right I dotn think they will ever add interiors, too much work, and once the game starts only a few ppl like myself will ask about them most of the ppl that are gonna play this game are prolly all pvp anlets go raiding today PEW PEW PEW I love this new WOWTREK game kind o gamers. So no I dont see this ever coming to fruition if its up to the majority of players to make a stink about it to make it happen.
I agree with you
Interiors are indeed right up there with new factions: Never going to happen.

Mebbe thats what we need to do. Right now right away we need to start nagging away pestering for ship interiors, loolz <Im prolly gonna get it for sayin this> but I AM payin for the game and if somehting can be put into it that I would like and it WONT be put in UNLESS I say something about it then I should NO WE should say something about it. <jus my opinion> But if we start naggin now mebbe by the time the first patch comes out it will waitin for us as an update like a present on Christmas morning Loolz. Worth a try at least right??

If we dont start harpin on em for interiors...... well I have a bad feelin that this game is gonna be just like City of Heroes/Villians, and champions online, 2 factions a good and bad, character customization jus like in COX and CO and patches patches no real heavy or drastic chnages made through or by way of expansions. I mean try askin for your own house or somethin like that on CoX. Ya know what i mean??

As with all things in this game it will all depend on how well the game does. If it turns out that I'm the only one on the server then no, but if its a hit (which on the heels of the success of STAR TREK it might be) then this thing could be huge.
