This is our third audio road report from the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention and this report covers the convention for Saturday 8th August. The first 8 minutes of the report focus on the convention in general and then the last 25 minutes or so focus specifically on the STAR TREK ONLNE panel which had a playing demo of Star Trek Online! He also recalls how he was elected to dish out the TRIVIA questions for the BETA KEY GIVEAWAY!

I thought there was actual photos from the game and all I got instead was a bunch of people standing around in Star Trek costumes. :(
I'll check the audio reports in a bit though, thanks for posting.

Craig wouldnt let anyone take photos or video. We even had a chat with him after everyone else had left to see if he could hook us up, but it was a big no no.
Apparently, the PR department didnt even want them to show the game at the Meet and Greet, so Craig Z kinda defied them there.

Ah right, I'm going to listen to the audio uploads now any way. I hope the game looked as good on screen as it did in the screen shots.
Thanks for all that info and nice one Cryptic for doing this. It's great that they gave some lucky fans a peak at the game, it shows they're confident with what they've got.
I think you might be bit off with the uniforms though, i'm guessing that it's totally customizable from the start and if you wanted could go with Countdown/STO uniforms.
Added: Almost forgot, did they say ship interiors at launch but not customizable? If so that is great news.
Added: Can't believe i forgot to ask this, what was the dev using to play mouse&keyboard or 360 pad?

Yes, ship interiors not customizable at launch, but they will be there.
I will ask about the KB/M or Gamepad thing, when my guy in vegas wakes up!

Cheers for that. He did a great job describing the space and ground combat, coupled with the screenshots i think i've a good idea of how it's going to work.
Well that's great, interiors are in. I'm guessing that they must of found a quicker way of getting the interiors done, which holds well for the rest of game.
Looking forward to the PAX video.

I've grown to hate STO's PR department. I've said it before and I'll say it again: We've gone over a year since the last gameplay video. If the game is supposed to come out early 2010, why isn't there anything else available? Interest in the game needs to be ramping up now for the start of beta until launch.
Anyway, big thanks to Zinc for putting a demo together and saying "screw you" to the PR people.

I think we are really going to see a ramp up in PR for STO over the next month or two. Its just a feeling I have............kinda........

First, thanks for the info Zach. As usual, I appreciate the job you guys do at HF. I agree with your feeling about STO news. Understandably, Cryptic is busy launching CO at the moment, but I'm sure we'll be seeing a wealth of STO game info here soon.

agreed. If you look on the champions website; the first year there was only one video and after that year they started pouring in

I would hope that once CO is launched, it would free up resources that may then put some attention towards this site and the game in general.
The CO video page seems good, based the flew glances I have had at it, which may be promising for STO videos in the future.
I am also hoping to see Rekhans revamp of the info, as well as some re-skins of the front page. WarhammerAlliance (fan page for WAR using a similar webengine I believe), offered mulitple 'skins' for the site. I would like to see atleast an option to skin STO in Fed Blue + Fed based Graphics, or a Klingon blood red + Klingon/Gorn/Orion/nausi graphics. Or atleast see a default STO skin that is an equal reflection of both Fed and Klingons.

How would the game come out early 2010 when closed beta won't start until Dec/Jan and last 5 to 6 months before moving to open beta for a few weeks (if it's like CO open beta)
STO won't be out until at the least summer 2010

To the folks worrying over not having any video yet - don't worry.
CO's reveals were paced similarly. It was a long ways into alpha/beta testing before videos started to get released and, honestly, it was a good thing. What we eventually came to see was very polished, very well presented, and very much what we're going to see in the final game.
STO is still way, way too far off to be revealing a ton because a ton can and will change between friends and family testing and the game going gold. I know it's difficult to wait, but they will come, and we'll be much happier with what we do get than what we would have gotten if we hadn't let them fix a bunch of bugs first.
Once the CO NDA drops, I'll tell some visual bug stories from the alpha. All I can say right now is TRUST ME. :p

I wish I'd kept my screenshots from last September now, boy did it look rough back then :D

I think it is a bit much to not release at least another trailer since the first one last year. That being said having seen the game at the meet and greet, it looks pretty amazing. I think everyone there was not expecting a live demo and when they did have it, everyone was pretty surprised by how good it looked.
If anyone has any doubts the game isn't coming along, it definitely is coming along very nicely. As some other people said they would not let us take video or pictures of the big tv they had set up but the graphics looked very close to what were in the screen shots except for the fact of the UI they had in the demo which might change.

Just to recap what was in the road report, The word is that a new trailer will be released a PAX Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle between September 4th and September 6th folks, so its a little bit of a wait but I am sure it will be worth it.
