Defintely not pre-development.

STO under Cryptic Studios is definitely in development.

It is even in full development? Or is that after Champions Online is out?

Is it early development?

In summer 2008 Cryptic said STO was no more than 3 years out. So latest 2011.

Latest info is that STO will be out before March 2010.

Is STO in late development? Then why no news on beta.

It's a mystery to me.

Alpha or Pre-Alpha (aka "Internal Beta") is my guess. STO is in full development - they have seperate teams for CO and STO. And there is no release date set. We will probably see more info on STO when marketing for CO winds down.

I think once CO's beta is over, STO's will kick in to full gear IMO :D

Fleet forums have already gone up, its like a beta for beta :D. Closed beta can come up at any time. You never know, theres obviously still some content left to develop based on what developers have said but were close.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think from Zinc's recent tweet (quoted below) that he's suggesting beta is coming up. That's my interpretation, but I could be wrong.

CrypticZinc Playing more lower level STO content today so that it's ready. Ready for what, Craig? :)

Further to that, Champion's beta is coming to an end as it launches in a little over a month, so the way is clear.

Basically Atari Said STO will be released before the end of March 2010.

Zinc had strongly hinted in the past he was hoping to hit end of 2009.

In June - I believe - it had been stated that F&F had not started (which usually is 1 month prior to beta in other developer cycles) yet.

So I would say that unless they have hit some major obstacles, that we should consider the March 2010 as the mark.

Exactly. The solid news we've had from Atari, first being that they're aiming for the end of 2009 as Zinc had stated in Game Informer last year and of course the report that Atari want it by the end of the financial year (March 2010). There is nothing to suggest that this has changed.

My guess, and it really is a guess, is that we'll have beta news soon and it will start at the end of August/beginning of September. We'll probably have a release date in November. This is all me and my crystal ball though, no whining if it doesn't happen.

Indeed - it would behoove all to remember that the date could be pushed back a few months, as happened recently to Champions Online.

If CO is using the STO engine, I think finding bugs in CO will improve dealing with bugs they're finding in STO. :D

I'm not sure about this, you'd have to be finding engine based bugs, I'd hope there aren't many of those...

Now, CO seems to be using things that would be cool for STO to use such as public quests and missions in PvP. Perhaps the feedback from those could help STO.

About the dev cycle, it looks to me like they are getting ready for the Friends and Family Alpha stage. Daeke (I think it was Daeke) said on IRC the other week that they weren't in F&F, but based on recent tweets and such, seems like they are getting closer and closer to letting friends play the game. Not sure what this means for the closed beta (what most of us would hope to Apply/get into) as Alphas vary in length like anything else.
