The line we here many times in the show and the movies. and Hopefully something well be saying in game.
Do you think that the Borg soldiers will become invincible after a couple rounds of phaser fire. I certainly hope they do, and that cryptic just doesn't make like every other monster. That would totally suck.
MO to date their isn't any mmo, or maybe any game anywhere that has undefeatable foes. It would create very unique and scary situations, as is much of the encounters with the borg.
I can already hear the justifications know "that wouldn't be fun, that would be annoying, blah blah balh. I'm so sick of hearing that.
Im sorry but if I can get a quest that says defeat 30 borg drones, then I'll be that much closer to no longer supporting this game. I hearing a lot of things that I don't think are gonna make this game work. However I realize that it is excalty what I've been hearing that has made me worried. I ..... We need to SEE this game in action! were approaching one year since the launch trailer and have nothing to show for it. I would glady have the devleoper team forgo a week of chat with us and spend an hour compiling some game footage.

Wow didn't mean to rant but eh i guess it came out. So back to my point, do you want the borg drones to adapt to fire?

i doubt that we will get missions to "kill X things" however, its 40 years later, i wouldnt doubt that 7 had created some anti borg weapons that they cannot adapt to.

imo, i wouldnt want to play a game where an already strong mob can gain an immunity to all my weapons. that just isnt good game design.

also, video in 2 weeks at Vegas Con. thats a given. and who knows, they may have a bit more...

Not all weapons, just phaser or enery weapons fire. You can use melee and you wit to destroy them. Evade them. Trick them. Like Picard did in the hallodeck first contact. :D

At first we may only be dealing with Borg ships as seen in the vids to zap our Non-Officer NPC crew with ray beams.

I expect an update to give us the Borg NPC.

My thoughts right now. I am not sure about the "at launch NPC's"....yet.

While it would be interesting to have the Borg adapt to weapons we would have to have the ability to evolve ourselves in the heat of battle in order to overcome these adaptations or else we will simply have an unbeatable enemy which no one would bother to fight.

I'd hope they adapt, and if we're reckless without weapons fire, we have to fight by hand.

Also, I want at least an option that my BO's could be killed/assimilated :o tick a box at creation or something :p

Well, I think starfleet anti-borg weapons have come a long way, and I bet Klingons have done a lot of work as well, or the Borg would have sent a cube to crush them as well, the federation likely shared its early anti-borg stuff witht he Klingons as well while they had an alliance.

I'm betting that the borg wont really fully adapt to your starship weapons, making them harmless. That instead since your automatically altering your weapons frequencies and all that, they cant fully adapt, but they can reduce the amount of damage they take from your weapons the longer the fights go on, assuming your survive more then a few seconds.. (you might have abilities to completely redo your weapons making them more effective again once or twice per fight, on a cooldown or something.

Could be similar on the ground, the federation may have done a lot of work on their phasers, but the Borg really seem able to adapt to ground combat very well, for situational fighting they may have you do alternative means of killing the drones, like destroying environmental hazards to hurt them, or melee... I really also think Drones could throw up a shield to protect from a melee weapon as well, or projectiles, but not as a standard defensive shield.

you do need to remember one thing:

Starfleet has QQd the anti-borg task force away. So technically, the lower ranks may have diddly abilities to fight the borg with and they will adapt to their phasers and such.

however, maybe at a certian rank, youll get a mission to talk to 7 of 9 and the other remains of the Anti Borg group at the Dystrom Institute and gain an anti borg weapon. Getting this weapon also unlocks other anti borg weapon drops and schematics to make different types of parts and such to make a ship totally anti borg, if desired.

My standard anti borg personel weapon is a magnetically fired 50 caliber (hollow point) chain gun.

A fair way to do it is to have Borg as completely resistant to a certain type of phaser/disruptor fire (immune) and require alternative weapons ~ You saw what Picard/Dixon Hill's tommy gun did to those borg on the holodeck.

I hope Cryptic handles it well, too =)

The TR-116 was a federation projectile weapon in DS9. They just never went into production.

30 Years of phaser technology may make the Borg less resistant to phaser fire. Phasers may be able to cycle through more frequencies now as well.

I was about to mention this as well ~ Seven will invent something much more refined than our 'primitive slug thrower' we have today, I was just giving an example of damage vs resistances ~ Otherwise, enjoy being assimilated due to pride :D

As much as we may want nothing at all in the game to even come close to remotely resembling anything we see in other games, we have to keep in mind that STO is a game, and not a TV show. It has to function well as a game. I would personally rather Cryptic make a solid game based on tried and true ideas with a few new ones sprinkled in than have something utterly unique, new and unproven that may fall flat on its face. There are just some things that would be cool in theory but wouldn't work in a game.

That said, having the Borg have certain abilities to make them unique would certainly be cool...maybe not invincibility after a few shots, but maybe a passive ability that makes them more resistant to a certain type of damage the more hits they take of that damage (e.g., each phaser hit reduces phaser damage taken by 20%, capped at an 80% phaser damage reduction so that it's still possible to kill them, but tougher to...I think that would keep with the spirit of the Borg adapting while still being a workable game mechanic). Or an ability that lets them regenerate without interrupting their normal attack patterns. There are ways to incorporate the flavor of the shows without mirroring them exactly, and still making STO fun as a game.

I think the Borg will become aware this is a game and adapt. You will come home one day and find your friends and/or family assimilated...this is the ultimate weapon the Borg have been waiting to unleash all this time and the developers are playing right into it as planned.
