That other franchise has an mmo coming out, and they wowed fanboys everywhere with their opening cinematic recently. That is great, but we all know this is the mmo that really counts.

Tell Cryptic what you want to see in an STO cinematic or just join my cause to get Cryptic to start working on putting one out there for us.

Do you really want a completely useless, just hyping, cinematic video that doesn't say anything about the frakkin' game but that they have ILM and LucasArts at their back (which STO does not obviously)??

Actually, yes. That is exactly what I want. I happen to enjoy video game cinematics.

Why should they divert Workpower for something completely useless as this?
If you want a cool Star Trek related cinematics, go and watch your DVDs Oo

While I'd love to see a cinematic trailer, I'd rather see more gameplay video. So I have to decline your petition. However, a cinematic with the launch of the game would be rather nice.

Because it is not even the game people that make the cinematic, it is an entirely different company that they just pay to do it so they can slap it in front of the game. No workpower required.

Oh yeah... "just pay another company" to make something completely useless... wow that is... a great Idea... Hope you'll intend to pay that for them? ;)

lol, well every good video game EVER has had an opening cinematic so despite how much you loathe them, they will get one eventually. You are just gonna have to buck up and try to enjoy it.

No need to make original footage, just paste together a few of the 40000 hours of star trek footage into something believably original. Sure you'd have to be somewhat skilled so maybe they could hire it out but it would be a heck of a lot cheaper, you'd get all the big name canon character saying stuff in their actual voices and it'd be faster too.

OK, not every good video game. Just those since the days of SEGA Genesis.

I don't know why there's opposition to this, opening cinematics have been rather standard for many years now. Can anyone name a game they bought in the last, oh, say 5 years that hasn't had an opening cinematic? In fact i won't even bother signing this petition because i'm so sure sto will have a cinematic and that it'll get used to advertise the game that i feel i don't need to. To me it's like asking them to support a keyboard and mouse.

I find cinematics set the mood for a game, they may not teach you a dang thing about it but they sure get you pumped to play it. They also add to the overall polish of the product and they make for good advertising to boot.

Well, ST typically has hotter alien chicks than the "other" franchise. We need some covergirls like that elf chick from EQ. Granted she never made me play the game but I did pick up the box and look at it several times when I used to work at EB Games back in High School. And honestly had the game been better than what I heard, I would've at least tried it out.

So...how about some well pixelated Trill, Orion, Romulan/Vulcan, Bajorans, and Andorians in there for starters, eh?

In all seriousness, that certain subject sells.

*EDITED FOR SPELLING, NOT CONTENT.

Finally, someone on this thread understands what I am trying to say.

Now lets get some ideas going. Hot alien chicks, that is a good start. :)

I'd rather see this game produce more information than that other game has, i mena really this ones closer to a year away and has less imformation out there than that other one that's about 2 years away. they've really dropped the ball on imformational releases.

I want cinematics, but I want ones to pop up at important storyline moments in the game to make me care about what's going on. Cryptic, please take a long, hard look at Final Fantasy XI and their in game cinematics. That's one thing they did right. Even powerhouse MMOs like WoW are starting to do cinematics (Wrathgate).

They could do some sort of recuritment add style thing like the Marines or Army.

"The Few, the Proud, Starfleet" or "Dare you go where no one has gone before?"

Then they could show people training at the Academy, going on away missions, spacewalking, a monument to like Kirk or the Dominion War, and then a task force of like the NX-91001, some Exaliburs, Akiras, and other ships warping away into the unknown. Then end with like a crew photo on a bridge or something, and incorporate hot alien chicks where possible.

For the Klingons:

"Challenge yourself to honor the Empire in glorious combat!"

Then have cutscenes of like Martok beheading a Jem Hedar, BoPs during the Dominion War, and so on.

Yes, 110%!

I was so impressed with that "other games" cinematic trailer, that if it was a movie made like that I would go watch it, and pay to get into the theatre.

I know someone people who were swayed over to "that other game" just from the trailer, so I think maybe STO should wow its fans aswell

I always enjoy a good cinematic for a game, it kinda sets the tone for it. Although I'd hate the reason for it to be petty competition with that other MMO. I think STO deserve a nice cinematic.

How? The damned Trailer does say NOTHING about the game... the mechanics or anything else but that ILM and LucasArts played theire muscles... that kind of trailers just lead to major dissappointment because the actual game will not be anything like it... how can you be affected that much by something that is nothing more than a big fat lie?

I don't think the point of a cinematic trailer is to show you what the gameplay is like, I think the point is to entertain the player.

I think that having lots of videos showing gameplay walkthroughs with a dev talking over it explaining everything would be amazing. Fallout did a decent job with theirs. Ill petition for that :)
as far as a movie clip..meh

I'll play devils advocate here, just because it would be interesting to see something newer.

But it will cost you $5 Cryptic bucks.

No cinematics, they cost too much and id rather see that money spent on the actual game...even then an actual gameplay trailer would be better than a cinematic.

I'd sure love to see a nice 3d cinematic for STO.
Doesn't have to be really expensive like the other guys, just candy for our eyes.
Maybe even an animation using the game mechanics would be nice, but following a storyline like the Path to's.

Hot alien chicks would need to be represented as well, of course. :o

I don't really care for a cinematic because it won't be in-engine gameplay footage.

But I would love a new gameplay trailer that is cool enough to be cinematic-esque.

says the person messaging on an internet website for an Online MMORPG based on the franchise of a popular TV show and its blockbuster films.

you people are too busy creating reasons to not have a cinematic when you aren't even acknowledging that it WILL have one, guaranteed. this thread is not for you nay-sayers, it is for people who actually support the idea of getting to see it sooner rather than later.

another point, a name like Star Wars doesn't need to create hype the way they did. SWTOR will sell millions and millions of copies just because it is part of the Star Wars brand and it is no news that Star Wars sells. All of its films earned mega-blockbuster bucks. Star Trek, although very popular, is not a given brand name to make money. Think of all those Trek video games that came and went unnoticed. I'd be surprised if Bethesda even broke even on the few games they released.

Imagine the hype that would have been created if STO had a cinematic trailer released with the New Movie. And I say cinematic trailer, not gameplay, because it is clear that Cryptic is unwilling to show gameplay or we would have more than just the initial gameplay trailer to look at. From a simply marketing standpoint it would have been genious because the millions of people who went out to see the new Star Trek would be saying "what a cool movie, I think I will look into this Star Trek Online thing."

All of you saying "cryptic don't waste your money" don't know what you are talking about. That is how marketing works, you spend money to ADVERTISE, and then you make way more back because people know about your product and get interested. STO, unlike SWTOR, really needs to advertise in a big way if it is going to be successful and compete with the mmo wave on the horizon.

Since I don't know if the OP understands it yet, I'll add to it.

Cinematics don't tell us anything about the game, they don't mean the game will be cool, oh, and by the way, you already have a cinematic. Look up the launch video.

Now gameplay trailers, are useful.

Don't get me wrong, I like cinematics. My favorite of all time is a toss up between the Halo 3 E3 trailer (This is how the world ends) and Rock Band (Highway Star band on the moving vehicles). But cinematics should be reserved for marketing at big events. I think SWTOR kinda blew it by releasing the cinematic too early and not waiting for E3.

They wouldn't be, the people who work on the actual game ARE NOT the same people who would be making the video.
