I'm just curious as to if Cryptic has decided to have us advance our ships through combat means. Now if you're a Klingon this seems reasonable, however, playing a Vulcan science officer, this would be illogical. I'm just hoping that STO doesn't have everyone advance through the game by blowing your enemies brains out, seeing as most races on the Federation would not agree with that logic. I'm sure the ferengi would rather scavenge a battle for sellables than become a sellable, or a Vulcan to study a planet, not battle for who gets control over it, so, just hoping that theres a pacifistic alternative for us peaceful-natured sorts.

Exploration, science, and various missions of that sort are intended to be a major portion of the game as is combat. However, you are free to choose what you engage in. If you don't want to see combat at all, you pretty much don't have to. If you do want to see combat, you can get all you want through PvP and PvE.

Check out some of the Ask Cryptics and whatnot and I think they mention some of this.
