I was wondering what people were thinking/hoping would be in game as far as this goes and as far as the devs have said.

There's multiple styles of stations for each side, especially for the Federation so the possibilities are fairly numerous. Will we be able to walk around shipyards like Utopia Planitia, and explore defense and science platforms like the Argus Array? Or will we only be able to visit a few major bases?

The same goes for ground installations. Do you think we are only going to be able to explore military and science installations, or will we be able to visit cities and other civilian settlements too?

Also, which of these do you think fleets will be able to build on their own IG? Personally I'd like to see Fed fleets be able to build a station like Starbase 375 (from DS9) as that seems to be sort of a standard Starfleet base. I think allowing fleets to build something like Spacedock seen over Earth in numerous movies and episodes would be a little overkill. It would be nice if fleets could found their own research stations and other non-combat installations in space, on asteroids, planets, etc. I think it would help add depth to those portions of the game.

I was just thinking about this and was wondering what other people were hoping for. The more diverse the locales, the more hours I could see myself exploring them.

Thoughts?

I think you're going to see a little of all that.

Where this topic interests me the most is in their reference (many places) that PvP will entail factions fighting over resources.

I know they say that a lot of the PvP will take place in the neutral zone. I can understand that for static, quick access, PvP.

But the Galaxy is large enough that I hope they have a quadrant out there somewhere where there is an ebb and flow of control the players are PvP'ing over .... and he who owns it, has the ability to mine there. And it could be huge, and pretty much at a stale mate most of the time (sort of like the Western Front in WW I).

My only concern with my dream above is ... there's appears to be about a 3 to 1 ratio of Federation Players vs Klingon Players .... and that typically leads to "zerging" and that's not fun for either side. Its not fun and demoralizing for the losing team, and it gets old and boring for the winning team because there's just no challenge.

I'm sure that Cryptic has dealt with that problem in CoV and are dealing with it in CO. Since I haven't played either of those games, I don't know if they were successful or not.

Yeah I am indeed hoping for the same thing. You are right about the stalemate developing too. In WWIIOL, the line stayed fairly static until one side got really organized and tried to mount a major offensive somewhere. Even then, it would take several hours or days for the offensive to play out or fail. The vastness of space in STO should allow for this and should also help with numbers.

I'm really hoping the civs generated IG will have unique structures that you can actually visit...and of course char with phaser fire should the need or impulse arise.
