IGN.COM's Champions Online PVP details:
http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002851p1.html
Might give some insight into the various PvP options available within STO.
From what I can see:
1. Optional duelling anywhere (consent of both parties)
2. 5 v 5 Arena's, described as like a sporting event
3. 20 free for all (Can't see this working in STO very well)
4. Larger battles with two teams (no player limit given)
Any thoughts.
Sorry if its a repeat posting / not new info.

I saw that earlier and never really gave it much though because it's an entirely different game and it isn't a faction vs faction game like STO is.

Yeah, I'll tend to agree here. Comparing system specs is one thing, but gameplay mechanics are unlikely to be so similar.

Sorry. Just thought I'd spread the word. :(
*goes back to a dark corner*
Edit:
Although I do like the idea of a 5 v 5 'league'. Might be a way of organising inter-faction PvP. A more casual approach / 'first step' into PvP for some players?
e.g. Federation Battle simulations, House conflicts (Klingon). Might not work in the context of the IP though.
Having Klingon fleets 'align' to a house? is that an interesting idea?

Indeed the little we know about PvP;
Interfaction genrally restricted to certain areas.
Intrafaction for klingons is primerially House vs House, and for feds liekly to be some sort of wargames.
In addition to direct PvP there will be cometitive PvP.

While I too have taken the position that CO will give us some insight into STO. I'm kind of back tracking on that now.
I took the time over the last couple of weeks to read up on CO and its fairly clear that comparing the two are "apples and oranges". Yeah, they share the same game engine but they are two completely different games, with two completely different goals, targetted at two completely different audiences.

While they are not the 'same' game nor genre, it does give some suggestion of how Cryptic views PvP.

While they are not the 'same' game nor genre, it does give some suggestion of how Cryptic views PvP.While it's almost a given that Cryptic traditionally knows very very little about PvP (i.e. see the sad design of the PvP for City of) it in no way can be seen as any indication of how they feel about PvP. Well other than the fact that they're starting to wake up and realize the importance of including it.
CO originally had no PvP planned, which was due to them thinking that their customer base for the game would primarily be RPers and fans of the IP the game is based on. Now it seems they're realizing that is not going to be even near the case, and that they have to attract mmo gamers. Which means getting good PvP into the game to go along with good PvE (unfortunately they're still going to be disappointed by CO's numbers because they never added a opposing faction and designed a good FvF game). Now they just need to realize that RP and RPers is a tiny niche market and quit paying them lip service beyond what they give any other tiny niche group.

You'll see all of this in STO , the 10v10 is already in as far as i'm aware , it'll be instanced . There have been pervious posts on this , I just haven't the time to pull the details , at work . Also pretty sure they stated that the Neutral zone will be PvP area. As will deep space.

Instanced and 5v5 which is like WoW Arena type stuff is all great But.
I hope that the Nuetral Zone and Open space is Open PvP player controlled persistant content instead of instanced. That type of PvP is the best by far. Controlling it just takes away any realistic fun IMHO. ;)
Disputes between Klingon houses needs to be open on the most part, otherwise it will seem to be too aranged and content controlled I would think.

I would just suggest some sort of timer so these house PvP wars don't go on endlessly. Granted there are other things I'd like to be doing , mmm prehaps stepping on Feds ?
