Honestly because they don't want to tell us. LoL They probably fear giving us a date then a possible pushback and then they will have a lot of people complaining.

Imagine when the September release date for Champions comes out. Most the artists and Devs will be walking across the street to the STO Studio.
Imagine how fast it will be moving then. I would say the BETA will be testing around October at a guess.
The assistance STO will be getting will be overwhelming :D

That's not nesacarily true. Don't forget Cryptic has a third mmo on the drawing board. Most of the Champion devs might go there. Some will definatly stay with CO and some will go to other projects. But to expect that Cryptic is going to shove all thier devs into one game is ludicris. Don't forget, too any cooks spoil the soup.
Now as or why they don't tell us a release date. They could tell us, but if they miss that day by even as litle as a week people are going to be screaming for blood. So they'll hold off untill they are certain they can get the game out.

-Avoiding breaking this thread into several discussions (start a new thread or go over the C-O if you wish to discuss that, no hijacking today) i'll just respond with:
Patience. The world will not end, the sky will not fall and pigs will not fly if they don't tell us more info on release. Honestly?I'd prefer they wait ad tell us when it is concrete. Wouldn't be a wonderful world indeed if at least one MMO just waited, not listen to over-active fans and forum-ites, until they really knew the release date? And if it happens to be a scant few weeks before said date when they announce?
Doesn't matter. Doesn't change much of anything.

It may be considered ludicrous but why is it ludicrous?
Maybe video game companies who make online games would get projects done much faster and it wouldn't take three to four years if they'd just focus on one project at a time instead of trying to juggle five billion other projects simultaneously. In this case, Cryptic is making great money off of City of Heroes and Villains, so would it really hurt to focus most of their development team upon STO after Champions launches in September? I'd think not.
Speaking of which, why did Cryptic make Champions Online? They already have a super hero online game out...so why build upon a completed foundation that really doesn't require anymore substance? Or is Champions supposed to be an upgrade for CoH/CoV that allows players do do more advanced things with super heroes or villains that was not visited in CoH? I have to admit that I haven't done much research on Champions (been focusing most of my attention here on STO). Somebody enlighten me if they wish.
Cryptic no longer owns the rights to CoX. NCSoft does.

I guess you could just be "patient", but on the other hand when u have seen this game bounced around from one company to another, it gets anoying. Plus the startrek universe is big, and has alot of content....fans just wanna make sure that their "soon to be best game in their life" is good, not some shotty work put together in an attempt of getting more money :)

They are a company who is trying to make money. If they put all thier eggs into one basket and that basket broke, guess what you have. You have a huge mess that may never get cleaned up.
So yes, it would hurt to focus most of thier energy on STO. This game is already millions in the hole. Would you want to stand up in front of your investors and try to explain to them why you put all your people on one game that failed? Do you really think the investors would give you more money after that?
And going by your logic Cryptic should have been focusing most of thier energy on CO and shelving STO untill CO was done. I'm guessing you'd be ranting pretty hard if Cryptic put out an announcement that they had bought STO but are putting it on the back burner untill another game is done.

I disagree to an extent, because as good businees would be, that to launch the game that is already in the hole in order to recoup the losses is the best way.
The stories, the ideas, the code, the space dynamics & flight sim has already been hashed to some degree. They just need a little more UMPH in the implementation.
To keep people on the payroll and not lose them is also the way to go. The ones that have worked on Champions will need to be on standby for future reasons, but not be needed within the first 3 months. The first 3 months of a new MMO is usually troubleshooting and coming up with a problems list. Giving artists and support staff a place to go til the next chapter update will have them hopping back and forth.
My thoughts anywhoo

Right now its Champions. The game is set, the die is cast.
When Champions rolls out, then there will be some Teams rolling towards STO to help in it's launch.

Listen: If there is not a giant blinkin' button with a date on the STO Main Page... there is obviously still not a Launch Date set :p

I'm betting your answer is no.
Definately NO.
STO has been marketed as an MMO and has been advertised longer than CO (5+ years). It was originally developed by Perpetual, and when Perpetual announced they're "Going out of Business", Cryptic immediately announced they would do it.
Cryptic didn't start from scratch or Cryptic would have announced, Star Trek Universe Online, or Federation Vs Klingon Online.
They took over the name which implies they continued the work, which means that 5+ years is way too long to have an MMO, and not get it out to the customer.
They bit off a big piece. There is going to be choking no doubt. Certainly digestion problems. Hopefully the success will repay them 10 fold.

Possibly because it took about 2-3 years of development for Cryptic to release CO's release date and STO is only about a old. Possibly.

Yes, yes, I know. That's seriously old news and it's about time people get over it.

Sure they did, they started from scratch. Just because they bought the name doesn't mean they bought all the code that went with it.
Just because the name is the same doesn't "imply" anything. Cryptic has only had this since 2007(8?) which means that they've only had it for a little more than a year.

Software is rarely on time. Atari said March 2010, but considering what normally happens I would expect it to be late in comparison to that date.
I would not hold my breath. Give it a try when it comes out and make your decision then.

I think I'm going to take that form and save it for future use...
In terms of game release, I'm sure some people from Champions will go to STO, but also keep in mind that Cryptic has a third unannounced MMO they're working on. I'm willing to bet the majority of devs from CO will go to that project. In short, Co coming out might accelerate production on STO, but probably not as much as we hope.

I think the Cryptic should put MOST of their DEVS designers, etc on STO, because Star Trek Online is a game people have been waiting for since Perpetual started making it! So, personally, they should hold off most of their people on the "3rd MMO" and finish what they got! Oh, I forgot to say that I've heard that they've had some trouble with STO, so, that's another reason to get more people on it!
