One of the hardest things to be would be a Moderator in a Star Trek MMO.
For 40+ years it has been well known that Star Trek, in it's entirety, has been one the of the most hotly debated genre's ever put out there.
Remembering all the different aspects of one play by William Shakespeare, would give a multitude of various answers by the reader. In class when discussing Shakespeare, a common question was "Was Hamlet Crazy? Explain.". The answers were various, and discussion could take days with no result of who was right or wrong. Just a lonely teacher in the front to moderate the discussion and keep everyone seated.
Star Trek has over 10 movies (stories) and several hundred hours of miniplays (series episodes) that often contradict each other enormously. Then there are the comics, cartoons, and books that never made it to the screen, but they too have a loyal following. Add to it the 20 some odd different Star Trek themed games that have come out that let you ride in the ship, and go on away missions.
So many various thought processes, age differences, whimsical, and serious episodes, daunt the minds of the fans. To that extent alone, it is an atmosphere for an international incident that even the best ambassadors that have ever lived, could not rectify.
If one was to ask, what has been some of the Top 10 most argued topics in the world, I would think that Star Trek would be in the answer somewhere.
Now that Star Trek is becoming an MMO, we are once again tasked to discuss Star Trek not only in casual discussion, but (as many of us do) with heart and passion. We all know that Star Trek fans are passionate, and it will evolve into much more from time to time within the forums and within the game.
A topic is presented and explained (some lightly and some with research). Then either it deserves serious thought or is glanced over.
The serious thread, tends to begin the debate process, and pending the topic and the post count, the Moderators get involved to make sure everyone stays seated and acts civil. Most of their actions (whether by a simple comment or by removing threads or sending forum members to the corner) are with merit.
Posters that have posted enough, know what is meant by this, because they have overreached the forum chat rules in some form or fashion.
I would imagine that the Moderator seat would be a hard one to keep filled, and that being said, would mean that we can expect in the future, the names to change frequently in the Mod list below.
I enjoy continuity in gaming. I know what to expect when I press the play button. I would also like continuity in the forums, so I know what to expect, and how far I can debate a topic. I would like to keep the same moderators who know me and my thought processes, whether they are good or bad, I will always know what to expect from them.
In closing I would like to say, please remember the moderators and the forum rules, before posting. If you are new, read the Terms of Service at the top of the page before you post and if your statement touches on any of the topics there, tread lightly and don't push the moderators buttons.
Like the rest of the companies out there, most are multi-tasking employees, and while they are AFK, they are probably trying to help us, by bringing our information to the Developers so that they may make the game better for all of us.
