So do you think there is any chance in hell they will release the character creator and ship creator as stand alone applications we can download and play with before the game launches, and as promotional tool for the game?

I mean the way software is designed today, those are basically stand-alone applications that create the database entry anyway, the the client is started (itself a totally different app).

I realize that mean taking someone off of something else to get such a release out, and I myself am not sure that I want to see that.

On the other hand, if the ship creator and character creator are as in depth as I expect (given its Cryptic) .... it would be ultra-cool for us to be able to mess with it off-line, write down the variables we use, and then just punch them in when the game goes live and we're in the real creator.

And what a helluva promotional tool it would be.

What do you guys think?

I see no reason they could not release the character/race creator; EQ2 did that just fine. As for the ship creator, I doubt it; they may not have them done yet and/or the ships that you start with are still subject to change.

It would be a interesting pre-release. Kind of like the Spore creature creator, that was basically an advertisement for the full game?

From what I know, they did not do so with CoH/CoV... but, I would like that.

If I had it, I would be bored after one day after trying a million combinations. Nah, Cryptic don't need to release it as a separate application, I reckon.

No need for it to be released early, the people who want to create a race will spend time at it while people who just want to play as humans can start playing earlier, with some luck this will cause less lagging problems. But i seem to go offtopic, my apologies. :)

I'm surprised a couple people don't want this. I think this would be a great pre-order incentive!

Another thing that helps prevent lag is having a 'soft' release for pre-orderers, beta testers and/or CE members 3-5 days early. That way they can get some kinks worked out and have a good amount of people out of the 'noob' zone. Again, a great pre-order/CE incentive...

I think it would really attract alot of people to the site, but then generate alot of questions too.
But then again if they want traffic it would be a good tool. I agree with the guy I would get bored in the first day so would others but I think they just come to the site to play with it.

I would probably enjoy something like that, especially since I have no idea what race I want to play yet, lol. :D

Same here, I'd love to play around with it, and even if you are planning on playing one of the canon races, you still would have a lot of customization to make on your characters that you could spend your time getting it just right.

Only if I can save my creation and make him a character when the game comes out. Because I know I'm either going to spend an hour playing around on it or get impatient and make a stupid character just to get to the game faster.

As I have stated in the few other threads on this topic....I can patiently wait for release to tinker with vanity (or Crytic's favorite new word "aesthetic") devices. I respect (and completely understand) those whom desire to goof with it before release, but like another eluded to I would not want to get bored with it too soon.
