I was wondering if anyone knows what rank I'd have to be in the STO game to comand the following class of ships:
Defiant
Oberth
Avenger
Intrepid
Sovereign
Galaxy
Prometheus
Thanks,
Terry

Short version: no idea. We have no clue how the rank/ship tier system is gonna work out.
That said, something like and Oberth might be available out of the gate (if the Oberth is in the game that is).

Avenger = Non Canon, highly unlikely being in STO.
Oberth = Not likely in STO, but if in, Tier 1 (Ensign)
Intrepid = Tier 3 (Lt)
Defiant = Tier 4 (Lt. Commander)
Prometheus = Teir 5 (Lt. Commander)
Galaxy = Tier 6 (Captain within a Fleet)
Sovereign = Tier 6 (Captain within a Fleet)

Technically the Avenger is canon if it is quoted as a starship class in the listed TOS episode from the link posted by one of the other forum members. I highly doubt that it is a class in STO (If it is I am surprised it hasen't come out as one of the Ships of the Line). The reason being because Cryptic has already stated that for the Federation you will start out in a light cruiser class (Either the Centaur or the Miranda) which is larger than the Avenger scout. Also, since it seems as though no ship design or concept art is available for that class and there is limited or no further mention of the Avenger class in any other Star Trek canon I don't think Cryptic is going to try and mess with it.

Er... not quite. If you're referring to this (http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Avenger_class) link, the referenced source, "Intersection Point," is a short story, not an episode of TOS, and therefore non-canon.
You can also tell by the header of the website that was linked: "Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki"
The Avenger class is clearly not canonical, but since it looks more or less like a Miranda class, the Miranda (or something like it) will be the starter ship, and ships are customizable, you might be able to create something that looks roughly like it in STO.

Ontas hit the nail on the head. It's from a short story and not canon.
BTW Doug Drexler only deals with official starships. That's why it hasn't appeared in the Ships-of-the-Line. In which 2010's Calander looks pretty awesome this year. :D

The Centaurs and Mirandas are Frigates, not Light Cruisers.
Besdies, people would rather captain an old Hermes-class or an Oberth Starship than that anyhow.
