View Full Version : So, How Was the Visit by CBS?

What were their impressions. Do they have much in the way of constructive criticism? Did they object to anything. Pressuring for an earlier launch?

Not a chance in hell of hearing what went on in that visit ... except possibly the very carefully worded; "They were very pleased with what they saw of our project."

I'll tell you what. Nothing.

The same could be said about Cryptic and Star Trek. So your comment is greatly appreciated.

Well, also depends WHO from CBS would visit. Worked at Squaresoft on and off, and when Disney visited (regarding Kingdom Hearts), the visits could range from "Hey, is Bob and Steve, whoooo!" to "Oh dear gods not Phil!!"* However, either way, very unlikely the general public would hear something- heck, kind of unlikely the Devs would know anything extra useful unless things were changed, (those types of visits tend to be more management oriented).

Your arguing CBS has no MMO experience, the same could be said about Cryptic and the Star Trek IP. It wasn't a hard sentence to understand.

Your arguing CBS has no MMO experience, the same could be said about Cryptic and the Star Trek IP. It wasn't a hard sentence to understand.I guess I didn't "understand" it because it made no sense to me... Cryptic is not developing Star Trek. It's developing a MMO. Using the Star Trek universe as a background.

Also, Cryptic is not making any judgment off the Star Trek universe, it is simply using it. How many MMO's did you play where universe/story mattered? I haven't played any. Mostly it's just a wrapper. That's how MMO's tend to be developed. Fortunately, Cryptic doesn't even need to worry about a wrapper, they already have one. A very good one, in fact. All they need to do now is make a decent GAME and bend the wrapper towards it (no, not the other way around).
CBS, on the other hand, is making a judgment of Cryptic. CBS, having never developed a MMO, wouldn't be able to appreciate much outside of eye-candy. Unless there's some MMO player in CBS or something. But really it's just one of those totally useless checks on "how the guys are doing" just to keep Cryptic a bit worried about CBS's opinion... CBS is powerless, and they better not interfere unless they actually know how.
From what I know, Spectacular Optical (CBS, I mean) is simply a channel.

Your analogy does not apply.
IMHO.

Inxi, loyaltrekkie,...Mmmmm..catfight. Rawr!

:p You both are being a bit overreactive to each other, methinks. I only say this in the hopes the two of you will relent, as you both have positions on things I respect, and you would make far better sparring partners than mortal enemies.

I think I'll just take it as a note to stop arguing with Loyaltrekkie. I keep forgetting who I'm talking to. Thank you for breaking up our feud, Pavel Bester.

I would imagine that the visit with CBS was less a 'total' review, but rather 'just making sure they are not '*******izing' the IP.

I mean CBS approved all the other crappy Star Trek Games as well.

Now, if CBS was looking to toss money at STO, then that would be something of interest to us.

As protectors of the intellectual property, they could easily pull the plug for any number of a dozen reasons. Respect the power people, or you can return to whining about no game like we did for many years.

Heck, we are still whining now.

I own 31.7% of CBS...the meeting went well. Just kidding....with all due respect to all concerned....why the hell are you concerned? As a matter of fact, why the hell do any of you even know or care that they had a meeting? Sounds like dram-a-rama nonsense to me all around. {And yes I know CBS owns the IP}

Some members follow Devs on Twitter, so I imagine a Dev tweetered(?) about it and it was 'leaked'. Twitter scares me.

From Zinc actually. Good guess there. In case anyone is interested here's the posts he made on Twitter.

Wow. Crazy busy week. Wrapping up from all cryptic playtest, CBS is here Thurs and Fri and then we have an awesome press visit next week!
Giving CBS a demo of the game.
@Fhuzzy I didn't mean the TV people, but as the owners of the Trek license! They're here for approvals and to make sure we respect the IP.
In the of the first 'clockwork orange' approval session for our CBS rep. Pry his eyes open and show him as many assets as possible.

Edit: The posts were made between the 19 and 25 of June.

I can't help but think this Twitter phenomenon is creepy. I know the information is being voluntarily provided, but it still gives me that feeling someone is peeking in my window.(If I were involved)

That's why I love twitter, it's convenient stalking. No more sitting in bushes outside a celebrity's window for me. Mind you, now that it's sunny I do miss the outdoorsyness of proper stalking.

Aye...I often forget about the facey-spacey twitter sphere nonsense....never even been to those sites, yet I hear about them ad nauseum whether I like it or not. Oh well such is life in the World's largest Junior High School (USA). Speaking of twitter etc. as soon as this site began directing people from here to there to follow the devs "tweets" and so on my participation in this site died down substantially. Perhaps I am old fashioned, but just prefer data be provided here...not just links elsewhere.

The best example I can think of were some of the constests here on this site. While I vowed to never participate in them anyways....once they began sending people to twitter to get the questions/clues I was even more certain I would never participate. Not certain exactly why this bothers me, but it does. Probably a similar feeling of a person peeking in my windows like you mentioned hehe. Oh well :)

the information scavenger hunt was always a bit annoying. Having to find this article in this magazine, or that article in that one. It seems to me we're being overhwelmed with mediums, and I, for one, don't understand the benefit. Does STO have MySpace and Facebook accounts, too? I like communities, but most communities exist in one 'geographical' place, not twenty.
