I work at gamestop...and was looking through the new releases so I could sucker in some customers in reserving some games. As I was looking through the PC section I noticed that star trek online had a release date. It used to say spring 2010...but as of last night...it did say 1/26/10. So I'm not sure if it's official or not but 1/27/10 it should be in stores assuming that there are no push backs and what not. I dont know if this is news to you guys but just thought I'd throw it out there.

I'm just saying guys...it may not be official but you can actually reserve the game now...gamestop doesn't make these things up. The only reason why the date wouldn't be correct is because of the game being pushed back ie bataman dark asylum. Just trying to share my knowledge with you guys...either way I'm super excited about this game!

lol... I see they don't hire the smartest employees at gamestop....
Gamestop randomly puts a 'release' date up when it *might* be out so that people will start pre-ordering. Gamestop does this to get customers and money as soon as possible. It's kind of a lame business practice....

Actually, a far more plausible reason why the company you work for, and any other company offering pre-sales, has a date is because in order to create an item in your database that can have pre-orders attached to it, the "release date" field cannot be a null value and so you have to put in something.
It's been this way with game stores and release dates for a looooooong time.

That's partly the point.
Sometimes you guys need to be a little less plushy. One negative message towards the guy is not going to make him fall into major depressive disorder, but it may remind him next time to check on release dates...

Suggesting that someone isn't smart because they lack a particular experience indicates a misunderstanding of the difference between those two things, and perhaps a lack of intelligence on your part.

To the OP-I will be nice. I've yet to see any release date for a mmo, from Gamstop come true. That is until the company who releases said game announces it offcially. For example, if memory serves me, gamestop had 7 different release dates for LotRO before the offcial Turbine announcement.
As several have said already, this is what Gamestop does to get people to pre-order. ;)

If it hasn't been officially announced, it isn't official. Gamestop / EB Games / Best Buy / <Insert Favorite Game Store Here> puts those dates up so that they can start garnering pre-orders. I remember pre-ordering Mass Effect with a launch date in August, and it didn't ship until mid-late November.
