I seem to recall a screenshot where Starfleet crew are fighting off Klingons on the bridge, but I can't find it.

So that's what inspired my question. Of course it won't be just interacting with one's crew, there's the matter of fighting off boarding parties, alien viruses, possibly Borg drones, receiving ambassadors and other visitors (eek, Luxwana Troi!), maybe averting disaster and core breaches.

One thing I do hope for, is that customizing your ship interior can only be made when you first get it. After that, it's permanent. Otherwise we'd spend extreme amounts of time tinkering around with the appearance of the Ready room and rearranging the chairs on the bridge :)

I think this screenshot you're talking about is actually the video that they released. it showed fighting on a bridge

And I've been hearing that you will not be able to explore your bridge/ship interior at launch, it will be developed later on.

very few gameplay, jus some instanced missions. However, Cryptic has said they are thinking of adding ship interiors after launch for free-roaming and exploration. Nothing is certain beyond that.

You're right Gene, the scene in question is from the gameplay trailer. I missed that.

There will be plenty of interiors in the game at launch - there are plenty in the game right now and I don't see them going anywhere. : )

You will be taken to interiors during instanced missions. You'll go to them in persistent ways as well - mostly social, but also in other cases that I'm going to be vague about right now on purpose : ) - There are starbases, satellites, ship interiors (yes, ships), buildings on the ground, caverns under the earth or deep in asteroids - all sorts of places you'll adventure within interiors.

Sadly, what we won't have at launch is the ability for you to customize your own ship, invite other players over and walkaround, seeing hundreds of NPC crew members and investigate every nook, cranny and Jefferies tube on it. We want to make sure that when we a feature like this in, it is a robust system that people will love, not just a marketing bullet point on the back of the box.

I'm not sure if Zinc's words settle my question. In other words, "no interiors of your own ship, yes to other interiors"?

I'd still be happy even if my avatar was the only player character on the ship. I'll be waiting for that day with baited breath.

* still wondering how much gameplay will be inside ships, in STO's completed form (if there is one)
