Okay I was thinking and I just realized that in the new Star Trek Movie Romulus was destroyed. Now I don't know when actually this happened but I was wondering how this will intervene with the game and the Romulens. Now even though as most of us feel the new movie didn't really feel like star trek but it still affected things well only thing it effected was Spock being gone from the regular time line and Romulus being destroyed. So I was wondering how this will effect the game and if Cryptic will put it in. Which I hope they do because than it's saying that Spock is still well to them Alive and Romulus never got destroyed which than makes the movie pointless.

The development team is heading off from the last known canon point, in this case being 2387 when Romulus is destroyed. One could argue that it's actually 2379 since I'm unsure if between 2379 and 2387 is considered canon. Cryptic has gotten CBS' blessing from what I understand, so who knows.
But the Romulan Empire is very much splintered and divided at the moment, even more so than it was from the power vacuum with the death of the Senate and fallout from Shinzon. So I'd say it has a real impact on the game since it's canon.

The devs clearly intend to put this into their game world. The fate of Romulus is mentioned several times in the Path to 2409 articles on the main site. I can't help but wonder if this didn't have an influence on their decision to not have Romulans as a playable faction. Devs may have intentionally overlooked them because they're no longer a major player in the galaxy. Face it, after what happened to Romulus they're hurting to bad to do anything other than try to hold themselves together.

Yea it would seem so, it's kinda like what happened to Cardassia in a way. I mean most of it's population got wiped out by the Dominon. All they were doing after DS9 was rebuilding and trying to hold on. Of course the Romulans don't have a planet to rebuild on.

I know it's no mere number, including those lost in fleet battles ~ But the final battle of Cardassia ended with 800 million lost. We have 6 billion on Earth today.
Romulus barely evacuated anyone, so billions were lost there.
Neither are out of the picture by far =)

Dunno why people keep having trouble distinguishing the two timelines.
STO: Prime Timeline. The one where TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and movies I - X happen. In this timeline, Romulus is destroyed by the Hobus supernova. Spock flies in the Jellyfish with a sphere of red matter to try and prevent the explosion. He is too late. The star goes boom, tons of people die, including Nero's family. He goes nuts, fights Spock, they both get dragged into a black hole and are NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN IN THIS TIMELINE. Repeat: NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN. This means in the game we will not meet Spock or Nero because they NO LONGER EXIST IN THIS TIMELINE.
Star Trek XI: Alternate timeline created by the destruction of the Kelvin by Nero. In no way do any of the events of the Prime Timeline (other than Nero and Spock coming out of the black hole) affect anything that happens here, and vice versa. Kirk never knows his father growing up, Vulcan is destroyed by Nero, the Enterprise is built in Iowa and commissioned later, Pike isn't horribly disfigured, etc. etc. The events of the movie OTHER THAN SPOCK AND NERO DISAPPEARING do not in any way, shape, or form, affect the game.
To sum: In STO, Romulus is gone, Vulcan still exists, we will not see or hear from Spock or Nero (except maybe in news vids or whatnot), and none of the events in the movie apart from the aforementioned disappearance of Spock and Nero from OUR timeline will have ANY place whatsoever in the game.

You might want to check out the "Path to" section in the main page, the later entries talk about events leading up to the movie and such.

Uh yea we know all that. Thats what I was talking about, Romulus is gone and they think well might as well think Spock is dead.

I beg to differ. I thought that the Abrams movie was more "Trek" than anything since the Wrath of Khan.
The only effect that the movie will have on our timeline is that Romulus (and presumably Remus) are gone, Spock is missing. Game-wise, that works, since the Romulans aren't a starting faction and main characters from the series probably won't be dealt with directly anyway.
From a more practical standpoint, Romulans not being a starting faction (yet) gives Cryptic some time to work on the political aspects of the destruction of their homeworld, build up some more mystery surrounding them (to our perspective) and turn them into a larger common antagonist to both the Klingons and Starfleet than they were before. -- Especially with (some of the) Romulans now working with and developing hybrid Borg/Romulan technology.
This will probably be the catalyst that causes a schism that will eventually separate the Romulans into (at least) two factions, one being NPC driven bad guy Borg/Romulans, the other being a post launch starting race in the game.
Edit for typo.

Cryptic would have to be retarded to follow that crap time line. That movie blew so much, oh god how i could rant. Compete crap, way to spit on tradition. It annoys me greatly when the best writers can come up with is alternate reality....ooooo so original, lol wtf. Lets put it this way i did get my money back after the movie.

I loved the movie. I was very happy about it being an alternate reality because it brought tension to the movie when I realized "wait a second, they could kill off a character... any character and it wouldn't affect the timeline since it is all new...". I even dragged my wife to the movie and she loved it to, even though she hates HATES star trek. Alternate reality plots are kind of tired considering we've seen Terminator, Back to the Future, and even 2 previous Star Trek movies go into it; but hey! I still enjoyed the tension and all the quirks from the original cast and sounds while updating the set to make it look more futuristic.
To each his (or her) own.

I just don't believe we'll never hear from Spock again.
Sorry, but I just don't believe it ... even after Nemoy dies in real life, they will still be writing storylines with Spock in them that exists after this point in time.
And I'm not even a Spock fanboi.

The only thing that bothered me in the new movie is that Spock/Uhura romance thing. Totally garbage - would have never happened in TOS. If you want someone to love Spock bring back Nurse Chapel! Other than that I see the alternate timeline as the only way they could "reboot" the franchise. Now they can easily re-do TOS in movies or series however they want without having to rigidly stick to prime-universe events. It's about story telling that makes money. They tried to go back in time with Enterprise and we didn't buy it so maybe the JJ Abrams reboot will work.
Now for the OP, everything you wanted to know about the Romulans is in the Path to 2409 stories. Or it will be explained in these Timeline Videos (http://www.startrekonline.com/node/444).

There was a scene in Charlie X (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Charlie_X_(episode)) from the first season of TOS that I took as flirtatious between the two of them (ok more Uhura than Spock). Given a different time line, with events changed due to the destruction of the Kelvin, I could accept anything as possible.

There was actually several instances of Uhura and Spock flirting (or such) during TOS.
Give this a read :D

Another thing people seem to forget is that the Romulan STAR Empire was just that- a Star Empire. Romulus and Remus were the capital worlds but by no means the only Romulan planets in the empire. Another thing to note is that the real power of the Romulan State was the Military, which would have escaped mostly intact. The Romulans are in a period of internal struggle and confusion over succession but they by no means are on the ropes. They lost their capital system, but the Empire endures. As does their military. Personally I see this story as a setup for an eventual triumphant, and wholly militant, return to glory at the hands of a new Romulan military leader that unites the bickering colony worlds at the point of disruptor barrel.

OMG thank you for saying that. It was so horrible my jaw dropped only minutes in.
Since there may not be any more Star Trek shows, I like to think I stopped at ST:X.
JJ Abrams... I hate you.

Slight clarification: ENT took place in BOTH the prime and the alternate timeline.

Not necessarily. We have already been told that there will be "time travel" in STO, so if there is a mission that takes place in the prime timeline BEFORE Spock/Nero went into the black hole(such as during TOS era), then it would be possible to have Spock in STO.

When I went in to see the new movie I had low expectations, cause while I loved the TNG TV series, I thought the movies were poorly done.
So, going in knowing they were changing Trek history I enjoyed the movie for what it was, a decent Sci-Fi flick using characters loosly based off the ones I enjoyed.
The one thing that actually bothered me the most was Spock exiling Kirk. I don't believe he would have done that in any timeline, and I don't remember them saying the brig wasn't working. I got over that though.

Well, there are two factions. The main faction and Sela's faction and whoever she teamed up with (more will become clear as the "path to" (http://www.startrekonline.com/fiction) gets updated), but i'll assume that Sela and her allies return and unite the Romulans.

I loved the new Movie and I think it managed to jump Start a franchise that Berman killed off with Enterprise.
So, since the movies are canon, everything in the path from the point where Spock tumbles into the blackhole is now non-canon and up to the furtile minds of Cryptic and CBS.
