If you're curious about people's ideas, here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=18164) is a post I found on the subject, and here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=14612) is another one. All I did was search "old threat."

Here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=9665) is one I found by searching for the OP's subject heading, and here (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=8528) is yet another found with the same search.

Enjoy!

Great. That should have figured.

Perhaps it's he Star Wars universe, ancient rival to the Trek universe? Huh? Anyone?

Hur'q!!!!!

AH! The Hur'q, now THAT would be interesting.

Hur'q!!!!!

It is an ancient enemy with a precedent for nastiness, and the Klingons claim them to be extinct, but would they actually admit they couldn;t defeat an enemy, particularly one that constituted one of their greatest threats.

What's interesting is the Apocrypha reference:

The Hur'q were also featured in the video game Star Trek: Invasion, where they came back through a wormhole and had to be stopped from entering this area of the Galaxy to prevent them from taking it over. They were insectoid scavengers, their physiology resembled that of army ants and the armor of the samurai.

That's almost the exact description of Species 8472. Any relation? Not enough canon to support it.

The following pretty much rules out 8472, as I don't believe 8472 would establish a civilization in nonfluidic space.

In 2372, some ruins of their civilization were uncovered in the Gamma Quadrant by a Vulcan survey team. (DS9: "The Sword of Kahless")

Well, we still don't know much about Species 8472. Perhaps the reason they joined Fluidic Space was because they evolved beyond a need to stay in regular space? But now we're just swimming up to our necks in grey-canon.

Not only that but how would the Klingons really know? The Klingons fought with the Hur'q, if I'm not mistaken, at the beginning of their space fairing civilization and the Hur'q empire stretched from the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma.

Plus there is always the Guardian and such things. Ooorrr... what about Mirror Universe Hur'q? What if our Universe's Hur'q were the nice guys?

I'd say that's pushing it, but there's nothing stopping Cryptic from pushing it.

Had the Hur'q fled during their battles with the Klingon Empire, but not because the Klingons were defeating them(as they may no have been), that would be scarey. Perhaps it may be the Hur'q or maybe the Hur'q were obliterated by whatever the ancient enemy is.

I'd imagine the Hur'q situation going down this way:

Klingons are enslaved and their resources stolen. Klingons fight back. The Hur'q have trouble but honestly, they're so far beyond the Klingons it's not much. Eventually the nomadic Hur'q just plain leave. The Klingons claim they're all dead. They take some of their technology. Story over...

Until the Hur'q come by again. Yay!

Seriously supposedly the Klingons became a space faring race just because of the Hur'q. How could they have possibly WON? That's like a caveman army beating down the full force of the US Military.

Agreed, I see it more as the Hur'q just got bored and left.

If they are in the game I hope the devs go with the Army Ant design, that was kinda cool.

Almost Star Gate style....I still think the Hur'q retreated for some reason, and were intending to return once that reason was no longer important.
