I'm wondering if there will be old ship designs along with the new? like i have the sovereign class and my friend has the new NX-91001 class.

I'm positive they'll have already established ships along with the new ones. They might be updated variants but using the ship editor you can modify it and make look more like it did in the shows/movies. The NX-91001 for example (which could for all we know be a Sovereign in game) just get a version without the sensor pod and there you go, classic Sovereign.
Also I'm pretty sure that the Akira class was confirmed via twitter at some point.

I can barely tell the difference between it and a Sovereign, but they never said it was just a modified version. Personally, I think it's the most disappointing 'new' ship by far...and that's likely to include many further SotL updates.
If they've already confirmed the Miranda class as the launch vessel, though, and as old as it is, I can bet a lot of ships will be in the game.

I'm taking the NX as a modified Sovie until told otherwise because it is the only SoL that we're given the ship name and not the class name.
Technically they haven't confirmed the Miranda class, they always dance around the name Miranda and say "something like the Miranda" which I take to be either/both:
(A) There will be (at least) 3 starter ships, one for each career path.
(B) It will be a Miranda but given the Connie to Excalibur treatment and there for won't technically be a "Miranda" class.

Actually, Truthseeker. The Miranda-class is confirmed being in STO. ;)

I am doubting that the NX-91001 will be a class of ship, but rather a one-off NPC. Maybe it will eventually be its own class, I went back to looked at the page for it and the graphic looks like it has an NCC on the hull. Looks like NCC-1P3414, but then most of it is rather illegible...like one of those new registration things on web sites where it wants you to type what's in the box, only this text is far more squished.
Still, I suspect that the NX-91001 is indeed an upgraded sov, maybe Star Fleet wanted to test out several new technologies and picked a sov already on the production schedule to be redesigned from the ground up as a test bed. It may form the basis for its own class, but at release I think it will be a one-off we'll see flying around the server on the fringes of known space.

Well remember there has been a breakdown of the Kitamer acords from the coming of this new game so were now waring the Klingons or at least defending our selfs from them so every old ship has had to be upgraded, especially as Voyager got home and technology and advancements brought back by janeway has been used to update and upgrade all the ships so your older ships are in game just there gonna make more of a punch and take more of a beating then ever. Which is good considering the advancements the other races that has surely also been made

I certainly agree that it's most likely a Sovereign, I just find it strange that Cryptic didn't outright state that it was. I think the intent was to demonstrate that modifications that can be done, and they were a bit too vague about it.
I do really hope they are very inclusive of ship design, of course, it seems safe to state certain vessels that haven't been included in SotL will be included in the game, such as those in screenshots and banners and so forth.

I think you are absolutely correct. And I also hope that they include just about everything. Even go retro.

I know there are pictures of it but that doesn't mean it is a "Miranda" class. Before the SoL update, if we saw a picture of the Excalibur class, odds are we'd be saying the Constitution class was confirmed.

Here's the way I see it. They took the looks of the Constitution class and built it with modern technology and are calling it the Excalibur class. They took the looks of the Miranda class and built it with modern technology and are calling it the Miranda class (at least, that's what I've seen it called every time it's mentioned, they could still change the name). Until they give us a "set in stone" name for it, I don't see a problem with referring to it as the Miranda class, just as long as we recognize that it's not the TOS-era Miranda class.
As far as the NX-91001 is concerned, it seems like they've made a situation perfect for a contest in which the community votes on a name for the class. That's my view of it anyway.

Hey if you don't want to accept that being a real Miranda, then that's your call.
But to me, its a confirmation that it is indeed a Miranda-class starship, in which players are going to be free to customize her to the point she looks like an entirely different starship class.
