View Full Version : Timeline Question

I noticed something from the last supplemental that doesn't feel right to me.

There was a reference to an unsuccessful Klingon battle between a fleet headed by Worf and Nero.
Is this true? If so, it doesn't make any sense at all.

How does that work? Nero presumably follows Spock to where he launches the Red Matter in the film (don't get me started on how that works ... if it launched a destructive wave where exactly did he launch the red matter? At the core of the supernova explosion? But then wouldn't his ship have to fly though the shock wave and get inevitably destroyed ... and how did Nero's ship get through first) Anyway, so all that is a matter of cannon so far as the game is concerned ...

But Nero fights the Klingons?

1) When exactly did Nero divert to Klingon space to attack? It just doesn't make much sense in terms of the timeline. Zoom to attack the federation, zoom to attack Klingons then, in zoom to follow Spock into the black hole?

2) Technology. It seems very suspect that even a heavily modified Roumlan mining vessel could seriously take on a large Klingon fleet. In the new movie, Nero's vessel has an advantage against the Federation because it has a little more than a century's worth of new technology at its disposal. That's easy to shallow.

But that this vessel basically destroyed Worf's fleet? That's not remotely believable.

Maybe the devs could go back to the drawing board and revise the logs ... it'd be easier to believe that the a Romulan fleet could have attacked the Klingons, but not one ship.

The mining vessel was outfitted with secret romulan technology and the battle took place before nero and spock went to the parallel reality.

Yeah, I recommend you get and read the comics that were the precursor to the new movie. In these "countdown comics" it explains that Nero uses experimental borg armor tech. This is what made the ship so powerful.

Nero didn't divert to Klingon space. The Klingons came to Romulan space (which is adjacent to Klingon space). This happened between the time the Hobus, the star, went nova and when Spock used the red matter to start the black hole.

I forget exactly why the Klingons came to Romulan space, it made sense when I was reading the comics though...

Nero had been attacking both Federation and Klingon ships along the Romulan border, this obviously got their attention.

Oh right on. I remember now. The Fed/Klingon ships came in to help in any way they could, and then Nero turned on them because he was angry they didn't help in the first place.

Here are the summaries of the Comics, which might help better explain the situation:

http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Countdown,_Number_One
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Countdown,_Number_Two
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Countdown,_Number_Three
http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Countdown,_Number_Four

I think if you read through them, they might answer the questions you have.

we need to start a new thread with only those links in it and then get it stickied, that would help a lot, and prevent the posting of a new thread every day asking about how this happened/ what happened etc.

Great idea! Those links really did help clear up a few things.

Though it is explained like you said in the comics, unfortunately the movie contradicts the comics. In the movie, Spock said Romulus was destroyed when he was ON HIS WAY to deliver the red matter. In the comic, it happened BEFORE he even LEFT VULCAN. Therefore, this causes a problem with the back story of Nero refitting his ship and attacking the Klingons. In the comic's version of events, he did this between the time Romulus was destroyed and Spock finally got to the Hobus star(several days). However, in the movie's version of events, he wouldnt have had time to do this, since Spock was already on his way when Hobus went Nova, and Nero was waiting on him when he got there(several hours). And since the movie, not the comic, is canon, STO's timeline should have followed the movie's version of events, in which Nero wouldnt have had time to outfit his ship and fight a Klingon fleet.
