Hi, if I form a party with a friend, will there be 2 spaceships floating around, or I can say, become a crew member on my friend's starship?

Im pretty sure there will be 2 spaceships flying around.
From all I have seen and read a player can not become a member of another players ship crew.

There will be no player crews or ship interiors outside of missions at launch. However, the two of you can beam down to the surface of a planet together for an away mission.

You can group in pretty much any aspect of the game. Each player will have his/her own ship. This will make grouping with different people really easy.
I don't really understand that 2 spaceships flying around question though. There will probably be a lot more than 2... At least I'm assuming Cryptic hopes so ;)
And welcome to the forums!

That would be AWESOME if you could have your friends as part of your crew... of course, that could lead to arguments as to who gets to be the captain or perhaps even a mutiny.
And it would probably lead to some funny joke playing and pranks, at least in my circle of buddies. Like beaming one of them down to a weird planet and then warping out of the system leaving them there.

Basically,
Space = Your ship is 'You'.
So like in WoW, your character is a 'Troll Rogue', in STO when in space, your character is basically 'the ship'.
Its like a Flight Sim in that respect.

Although I remember reading in another thread a very good solution for team-play. Something along the lines of 2 people per ship, as captain and first officer. That way, the tasks of battle and getting around can be divided between two people, allowing them to focus more on certain areas. The downside would be that each person would only earn 75% of the "points" or "money" or whatever type of rewards system is set up. And together, they could have a nicer ship than either one apart. Trade in a couple of Miranda classes for a Nebula or similar. The decision of who would be captain would be made on the basis of who has more experience or "points", as above.

no, you cannot fly 2 ships at once. and no, you cannot be on your friends crew.
however you two can group up and have your own ship, therefore making it 2. this grouping system works up to 5 people. after that it becomes a raid and that is only used for end game/super hard things.

There is no need to be rude, just because I haven't saw that damn post. You will just make newbie players go away, imagine if a person is interested in the game and they are greeted by this kind of thing, maybe you will make them go away. Just because they haven't read a thing up there. It's not everyone that is accustomed to forums, or these kind of things posted there. So please don't do this again. Thank you

so let me get this straight. youre allowed to just make whatever threads you want without having to done ANY searching on the thread?
Yeah. No. READ THE STICKIES BEFORE YOU MAKE POINTLESS THREADS.
That goes for everyone on the forum, not just newbies. Its just polite.
That is all.

I think your foe was referring to the remote possibility of someone looking up the game and having an odd question or comment. Honestly, to go through every thread to make sure it's in the right one, and then read the ten pages of hopelessly complicated fanboy chit-chat totally unrelated to his or her comment or question is far too much to ask.
Heck I think it's too much to have to have an account to talk on the forums but I digress...
Oh and it was never suggested that one person could fly two ships simultaneously just by buddying up, it was just asked do you get to go with your buddy on their ship and leave yours orbiting a planet? or do you have to just fly your ship uncomfortably close to your buddies like an escort or something?
And the answer to that is the latter much to my dismay.

hmm, nooo...if one of you goes down to a planet, you are both beaming/shuttling down, and your ships are vanishing until you return. or at least i assume theyll be poofing. if not, helloooo lagfest. especially at popular planets (risa im looking at you)
however, im assuming thats only if you want to go to ground mode. im sure you could just fly around in circles until they finish their mission...although wheres the fun in that?
