ok this is probably a major topic to any mmo fan and anyone who just is addicted to the world of star trek i am wondering if beta will only be a lucky few or if there will only be a certain number to get in or if possibly you have to buy something to get a key for a test. For me i would pay just to play the beta i have been getting more into star trek over the years and now its just something i believe is Awesome. I am willing to pay to play this beta so i am wondering if there is any info on the beta or if there wont be one at all.
Thank you for your time

Beta will start when the Genesis project is completed to the producer's satisfaction. No time is set yet. So sit back and read all the other posts about Beta.;)

That's what ebay is for. And to get your accounts banned for trying to sell beta keys that do not belong to the people that are trying to sell them.

besides the Contest's and the Trivia (very hard to win)
its near impossible to get in to beta,,, its all random from 10,000,00 of people who apply for it
not even people like my Self and LordDave (only person i can think of from top of my head (wave) )
who been here since July and Aug of 2008 dont get in.. its the smartess people and the people who help out the forums and help with new comers to STO who get in..and a few random lucky people
you just got to apply when it comes out and cross your fingers! that you get in!

you know i don't think its right for people to pay for beta, and especially with this resection happening, you will get allot more bug fixed if they choose people randomly, and who have spent there time and respected them selves on the forum.

After further consideration, I think that’s a great idea. Think about it. 10,000 official beta keys on eBAY for $100 for each one, that’s… wait, doing math…. $1,000,000. In a few days all the beta keys would be gone and Cryptic could show some income on the books. It’s a win win.

Haha, selling a small number of beta keys at absurd prices, why not, there is bound to be someone who buys. And if this is not the case then you lost nothing. :D
What have we come to?

From what I know the beta is to this point going to be a Closed Beta. Meaning that a particular number of individuals will be selected to be allowed into the beta. They can later make an Open Beta later where they will allow a larger community to test the game before release. That is how things work at the moment to my knowledge.

Being a closed beta tester is not as fun as it sounds. You end up playing a usually fairly buggy game, with some glitches so annoying you can't stand it. Then you have to report the bugs with as much detail as possible and hope it gets fixed ASAP. There are also character resets and similar occurances so the devs can have you try certian races, classes, skills and the like to test for further bugs and balance issues.
I personally don't mind the annoyance of it all because it makes me feel like i have contributed to a good thing that many people can enjoy. But i can tell you this; for those of you who get into the beta, do it to help, not to role play the game. If you don't report the bugs you find, then you are not a good tester.
A while ago i was in a closed beta that had a glitch where you fell through the floor randonly into oblivion and had to log off to fix it. While testing the same game I also had my gear disappear randomly so your avatar looks like a naked Ken Doll lol. Just go into the beta and understand that there will be some VERY annoying bugs that might not always get fixed as fast as you would like because the devs are working on bigger bugs.
I would never pay for a closed beta. Beta testers should be chosen from a broad variety of backgrounds, and with a broad range of different system hardware. For the devs to be objective they need to know that their game will work across diverse hardware, and they need to know that the testers they choose will be most beneficial in the final development of the game.

I wonder if the Closed Beta is happening already... they will have signed an NDA so they can't say anything, and from what i've seen on here and on Twitter a lot is happening with the development... what are ppl's thoughts on that?
And as i've said before I could be very wrong! so don't take this as gospel, it's just speculation!
