My earlier post about PvP seems to have offended a great many people.
This was by no means my intention as I respect most of the folks on these
forums and would even say that I like a few of you,and I most certainly enjoy
conversing and debateing with the vast majority of the people on here.

As some of you that have debated with me in the past and on a marginal level
know my personality have noted, This post was WAY out of caracter for me
and I feel I must Apologize for my selfishness.

I was meerly reacting to a series of bad experiences with PvPers over the last
two weeks that skewed my point of view into an unfair and out of line bias.

I can only ask that you veiw that post in the light of my apology and try to understand
my frustration. So I say to a few of you...You know me well enough to know that
I am truely NOT that selfish. And to the rest of you I simply say...I'm sorry.

Thank you for your time and as always I apologize for my terrible spelling.

Your friend,
Draco

Yeah it happens unfortunately. No matter where you are or what you're doing you're gonna get a-holes, and sometimes you're unlucky enough to get a whole string of them in one go. (there's an unfortunate mental image...)

Might i ask what game(s) you were playing and what they did?

Draco do not appolgize!

Hey no one has the right not to be offended and there is nothing to applogize for!

We can have great, thought provoking discussions without agreeing with one another and without attacking each other personally.

I do encourage you to continue to share your thoughts. If someone cannot handle it, well thats just too bad for them.

I will hapilly give you the most anoying example.

About two weeks ago I was playing WoW, And I participated in
the defense of my captol city. During such time I of course expect to PvP....Duh

But afterwords as I was leaving and was I would say about 2-3 hundred yards
from town and still flagged for PvP evedently I was sumaraly and wholely trounced
in 1-2 hits by an 80.this was ok I was cool with it,after all I WAS still flagged.
However he then proceded to bogart my body and would crush me as I spawned.

He did this for like 20 min before he finaly got bored.

And that was just 1 example of my 2 week experience with A-holes.

You shouldn't apologise; you started a useful debate, which is generally well-mannered. The only problems occur when some of our egos collide, which is inevitable.

Also; people in WoW generally are a little......cruel in open world PvP. Especially, from what I have observed, on PvE servers.

I don't know you that well but I think I know what post you're refering too and cuddos to you for setting things right with anyone who may have been offended.
Some people do get offended quite quickly over the internet, the only thing you can do is be very (very) careful unless you know these people rather well.

And yes, corpse campers are sad *******s.

Draco, been there, done that.

Yes it is annoying. And there will probably be times when that happens and you will run into people like that

People like are especially fun to be around when you are not flagged for pvp and refuse to swich. I have never played WoW, but from what I see the pvp model here will be different.

UO turned me off pvp for a long time. I started playing it when it went live in 1997. I have been on both sides; continually ganked and loosing my equipment to pounding player killers back to their noob level when stat loss was introduced (ever been accused of griefing by a griefer? Turnabout is fair play, after all).

Do not let your experiences jade you. I think the model the devs are working on will be fine and will encourage pvp. Voluntary and low death penalties are the key.

Too be blunt, many griefers that cannot loot you will go find another game. When you see someone call for "penalties" in pvp deaths, this could very well be what they mean.

Best way to handle a griefer is to annoy him; especially if the game mechanics allow it!

Yeah, no apology needed. You weren't wrong either. You have many valid points, which are all part of a greater debate. But since we have not seen the game, or how all these dynamics come together yet, it's a little early to jump the no pvp bandwagon. I think it's still important to discuss these things here though, because it gives the DEV's the opportunity to measure the temperature of the gaming community and put tabs on things which they need to focus on to make the game that much more refined and polished for the players.

You can't keep everyone happy all the time, and if you try, you will fail. Just try to keep some of the people happy, some of the time, and the rest will follow in line.

Umm...you do realize that if you wait 5 minutes the pvp flag will disappear, assuming you are not on a pvp server.

Personally I don't think you have the need to apologize. You stated your opinion and some will agree with you. Others will not. I can understand about being made at being ganked that is never fun.

But, it seems you get your wish. Unless you turn yourself on for PvP in ST:O you never have to worry about it. Marry X-mass :)

well, you have the nerve to appologise, which gives you points in my book.

But everyone one's been there, one bad week and your sick of it, a week later you like it again. It's human nature, they don't like it when they lose and they don't kine being reminded of loseing.

that's another point in which us klingons are better then you humans. when we lose we die, there is no "being reminded" of our lose.

The great thing about messageboards like this is no matter what stupid things we say, after a week(at most) none of it matters :p

Look forward to playing with you, live long and prosper :o

Without doubt, one of the best posts I've seen on a forum, it takes guts to apologise to people you don't even know!

and I agree with the rest of the posters and yourself, these things happen, we do get angry from time to time and as much as we wish it didn't affect us sometimes it does, what you did was Human and at the end of the day it sparked a tremendously good debate.

Do not let it bother you, the posters on this forum seem like a forgiving bunch and in my line of work I have to deal with this on a daily basis, and you Draco have more balls than most people for apologising in an eloquent and professional manner!

I doff my cap to you!

PS: apologies if I sound patronising!

It takes a great deal more courage to admit a mistake, and apolgise for it ... than it ever takes to MAKE them in the first place. For displaying that courage, you definiely deserve respect.

And FWIW, I too have had strongly negative PvP experiences - more of them, than the positive ones. Luckily for me, I've had a few that were positive enough, that I've been able to keep an open mind abut PvP within an MMO setting. That, and, I do enjoy the thrill of playing against other humans, at least in FPS games (although, I admit: I usually downright SUCK at them - and the first sign of a__hat-like behavior and *POOF*, I'm gone).

About two weeks ago I was playing WoW,
What server, and which Faction? :) Sounds like you could use a few more names on your /Friends list ...

Indeed.

The occurrence could have been avoided all together.

Though I disagree on your opinions, I applaud your will to speak with such honesty, Draco.

Aw, right faction ... wrong server. If you ever roll on Sentinels, throw me a PM over here. ^_^ Or watch for the guild name Evil Death Kittens (heh).
