If champions online has no collectors edition , doesnt give us much hope that we will get one :(

Other than the fact that it is two different development teams.

Though come to think of it, City of Heroes/Villains didn't have one (I think) but at least Villains had pre-order bonuses depending on where you ordered from (nothing game changing just some cool looking helmets).

Sad poster is sad. :(

I would like to have the ubiquitous pewter fig (of one of the new and different ship types, please) a maplet, a book with the art and a music CD. I will pay double or more for the swag. I did with SWG...the collectors edition, if I remember right was like $90...and I still have the pewter fig on my desk.

Lets face it...the collectors edition is nothing but a profit center for Cryptic. They can charge double (or more) for the CE and only pay ~10% more for the stuff inside. Sounds like a win-win. They make more money and I get swag.

I think Star Trek screams "collector's edition" a lot more than Champions.

Has it officially been stated that CO won't have a CE, or is this just some speculation?

But yeah, I agree with Parallax. The ST IP screams CE.

Star Trek certain as a lot more lore behind it. Champions would be difficult without infringing on someone else's intellectual property.

Are there money issues going on at Cryptic/Atarii? No E3 presence. No CE?

Well If they have a collectors edition, I would totally purchase it.

Well if there is No Collector Edition, I hope they give us:

DIGITAL DOWNLOAD

No reason to waste money on boxes, shipping, etc. Just let us download it (like beta). It is 2009, everything is basically virtual now, even Xbox content and games.

It wouldnt make much sense for CoH or CO to have a collector's edition, the fan base for those games just isnt strong enough in my opinion. STO on the other hand... has a huge fan base and Cryptic knows this. I'm sure we will be seeing some sort of Collector's Edition. Cryptic knows the potental market is there for it and they know there is a potential to make some big $$$ from a Collector's edition.

I for one hope to see a Collector's edition that gives some extra ingame items or extra character customization.

I disagree. Champions doesnt have nearly the popularity that ST does, especially considering the new movie. Its more likely that the REASON Champions doesnt have one is because Cryptic is focusing most of their resources on ST now :o

Sounds about right to me, Nagus. Well said :)

I think that’s because champions just isn’t the kind of game to have a collators addition, where as Star Trek, is well star trek, every thing becomes a collectors item form original action figures to games.

Honestly though, can someone provide me a link where it states CO isn't going to have CEs? I've tried ot google for it but I can't seem to find it. Sorry :o

Games with even lessor popularity than CO had CE, so I don't think popularity is the issue.

I'm pretty sure the marketing machine is allready ramping up. And all major franchises end up with special editions especially in MMO-ville, so no need to worry.

I think its just an assumption based on the fact that a release date has been set but no mention of a special edition, and usually SE's are announced with decent time to pre-order.

Marketing departments have a way of keeping things under lock and key up until the very last minute I think. Regardless of it being by the same company I wouldn't read too much into one game having a CE and/or Pre-Order items and another one not.

Usually the team can get into pretty big trouble if they let the cat out of the bag on things like this if they do know already as well. They likely just can't tell us something they don't know or are unable to tell us.

Personally I'm with the others. This IP just screams "goodies" to be added on to it as Star Trek is a pretty big marketing label. Just don't expect your very own Orion girl to come with one. ;)

I'd think if a CO Special Edition isn't announced, if it's happening it'll not contain anything they'd know about in advance, like a making-of DVD (I think they devs would notice the cameras!).

But I'm guessing STO has to have one. With a franchise like Trek, it's guaranteed to sell.

I'd love to see a collector's edition with a combadge and rank pip set. (that way I won't have to make some for the inevitable costume)
